This Sunday marks the last Sunday in the Christian year. In other words, next Sunday we begin a new Christian year with the season of Advent! It is time to locate last year's advent wreath frame and find imaginative ways to spruce it up. More than ever this year, it is important we anticipate and celebrate the light of the coming of Christ into our world.
The church has a supply of Advent candles in all colours. If you would like a set for your wreath, please contact Kelly at the church office at (403) 249-6184, or by email to arrange to pick-up the candles. A donation of $10.00 for the candles would be appreciated.
Sunday November 22 is the Festival of Christ the King.
Anna is the guest preacher at Christ Church Calgary for their on-line worship as they mark their patronal festival. Christ Church sponsored Anna for ordination and she then served there as Curate and Assistant Priest. If you'd like to watch part or all of that service it will be posted on Christ Church's Youtube page https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4IS3NTRA0unGIyQLmpJ6Fw
Diocese Suspends All In-Person Worship
The Corporation is pleased that the Bishop has appointed The Rev. Dr. Jane Rowland to be the Interim Priest In Charge. Jane will begin work on December 1st so as to have two weeks with Anna before she leaves.
The Rev. Dr. Jane Rowland is an Anglican priest, artist, and theologian. A passionate and dedicated teacher, she has over thirty years experience in paid and volunteer lay ministry, theological education, and ordained ministry. Most recently, Jane served as the Interim Priest for Word and Sacrament at St Stephen's Anglican Church, Calgary.
She holds a Master of Divinity from Regent College, Vancouver, and a PhD from St Andrews University, Scotland, where she wrote her dissertation on Spiritual Mothers and Prophesying Daughters: The Practice of Female Ministry among North American Radical Evangelicals, 1875-1943. Her current theological explorations are in the areas of trauma and theology, and trauma and spirituality.
Jane also draws upon her background in graphic design to create intricate pen and ink images inspired by the ancient practice of manuscript illumination. Recent art work explores themes of faith, trauma and hope through the lens of the biblical book of Jonah.
Other interests include wandering the range lands of the Eastern Slopes, photographing and drawing wildflowers, gardening, and reading science fiction.
