Dear Friends,

As I look outside from the warmth of my home, I see a lot of snow on the ground and heavy wind blowing it around.  I worry about ice beneath all that snow and don’t want anyone to fall and get hurt. Therefore, on that basis, I am going to cancel all worship services, Sunday School and church activities for Sunday January 20 th

Here are a couple of things you can do instead of coming to church:

1.    Spend quiet time in prayer.

2.    Watch for a live posting of the sermon on the church’s facebook page.

3.    Bake cookies to bring to the First Cares Day of Service on Monday.  At this time we are still planning to hold this event and will have projects for all ages and abilities. The cookies will be donated to local teachers to encourage them in their work.

4.    Check on your neighbors and make sure they are doing ok in this storm.

5.    Call or write a letter to someone you haven’t corresponded with in a while.

6.    Read a poem by Mary Oliver, perhaps “I Have Decided.”

7.    Become a choir of one and sing your favorite hymns loud enough that your neighbors will call and check on you to make sure everything is ok.

8.    Brew hot tea or coffee, light a candle and reflect upon your life blessings.

9.    On this Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend, read or listen to one of Dr. King’s sermons or speeches, perhaps “The Drum Major Instinct.”

10. Read the lectionary readings for today: Isaiah 62:1-5, Psalm 36:5-10, 1Corinthians 12:1-11 and John 2:1-11. Reflect upon the insights you gain from these readings.

Thank you and God bless,

Howard
