Hello Sunshine,
Happy Sunday Yogis! This week at Sunshine let's dance. By dance I mean Dancer pose is our Sunshine pose of the week. We are working on our heart chakras again this week and when we take the half-bow of dancer pose it opens our hearts and gives us a lift.
This past week was full of sunshine and it helped to lift all of our moods and spirits. The coming week has a different forecast in store for us and you may notice your spirits feeling a little down. Even though February brings Valentine's day it can bring feelings of loneliness and depression. This season may be the hardest because of the added weight of the pandemic. Remember to reach out to friends and family and continue with your yoga practice. Practice at home if you cannot make it into the studio. Even a 10-minute session of Sun Salutation A can help send the blues packing. There are numerous research studies that show yoga and meditation can help. Here is one from Harvard Health. Dancer pose or Lord of the Dance pose in Sanskrit Natarajasana. Nata (dance) Raja (king), is another version of Shiva. There are many statues that depict Lord Shiva dancing a dance of creation and destruction.
When we think about dancing yoga poses we should not be confused with Dancing Shiva or Parivrtta (revolved) Hasta (hand) Padangusthasana (foot to thumb). (maybe next week)
Show us your dancer pose to lift your spirits this week, any variation will do. Remember any yoga pose should not hurt your body. No overstretching! Use a strap if needed.
Stand in mountain pose and bring one knee up to the front and catch your knee with the same hand. The foundation foot should be firm and rooted in the floor with the standing knee soft. Drop the lifted knee and take your hand to your ankle. Lean forward and reach the opposite hand forward for counterbalance. It does not matter how far forward you lean but breathe a full complete breath.
Make sure to post your Dancer and use #sunshineposeoftheweek #sunshinetribe and @sunshineyogashack. Without the hashtag and studio tag, I may not see your entry. Every post you make is an entry. There are 4 weeks, and 4 poses before we draw the winner.
Classes at Sunshine have been very full and that translates to more energy in classes and great vibes. Please be considerate and book your class, if you cannot attend please cancel early. This will allow people on the waitlist to take the empty spot. We appreciate your help!
