Hello Sunshine,
The sun is shining and we have a beautiful week and year in front of us. The first week of 2021 gives us a fresh start and a blank page to write the story of our life.
Every year I hear friends and loved ones making resolutions to change their life. Often we strive to create a huge change. When we try to change too much we can easily fall short and this can create sadness and judgment.
This year why not resolve to be the best you, you can be? Breathe a little slower, eat a little better, give your yoga practice a little more energy. Spend more time with friends and family. At the end of 2021, you will feel satisfied and accomplished.
Join us for our Pose of the week challenge.
The Sunshine Pose of this Week is Downward Facing Dog or Adho Mukha Svanasana. Ever faithful like our companions and four-legged friends. A downward-facing dog is always there for you when you need to reset in your yoga practice. As we move through our salutes to the sun, down dog helps us start a new salutation and is a fresh start to the day.
Down dog looks like an upside-down V, however, there is more to this pose than meets the eye. A strong foundation in this pose requires the weight is equally distributed between the hands and the feet. Release tension in the jaw and neck and allow the head to fall toward the floor in this inversion. Activate the pads of the fingertips and heels of the hands to distribute the weight of the body equally. Our goal is to equally distribute the weight of the feet as well, however, it may take years of practice for the heel to touch the floor. Depending on your anatomy and bone structure the heels may never touch the floor. There is no need to force any aspect of this posture as your body will naturally evolve so you find the best variation for your body.
Show us your Downward Facing Dog pose for a chance to win a Manduka yoga mat. We will name the winner on January 31st! Make sure to use #sunshineposeoftheweek #sunshinetribe and @sunshineyogashack. Every post you make is an entry. There are 4 weeks and 4 poses before we draw the winner.
We have added new classes to the schedule so please check out what we have to offer.
On January 30th I will hold an Intro to Yoga workshop for anyone new to yoga. This is an informative class to give you a basic understanding of yoga history and why we practice. Please book your sport as it will fill up.
Also, we have a New Member Special. If you sign up for membership use coupon code 2021 and receive $25 off your first month. We ask that you commit to a minimum of 90 days of membership and if you only want one month please buy a block of classes. Practicing yoga is a catalyst for change and finding the best version of yourself.
Love and Light!
