Sea King Sunday Update

Dear Sea King Families,

It is hard to believe the first quarter of this school year comes to an end this Friday! This marks the halfway point of your student's academic classes for the first semester.  This is a great time to reinforce the positive academic accomplishments of your students and also discuss areas of improvement that can help bolster their work through the rest of the semester.  For students that are struggling in a particular class, I encourage them to reach out to their teachers and counselors to discuss strategies for improvement and opportunities for additional support.  There is still time quite a bit of time before the end of the semester, so for those doing well, remain diligent with your studies and for those who need academic support, reach out for help.

On Friday evening, our Booster Club held its annual Kick-off party to welcome new members and celebrate our amazing booster supporters! Thank you to the Shannon Family for hosting our event, as well as our president Dean Decker and our planning committee for a wonderful evening.  The PVHS Booster Club has a unique setup in that it supports the three A's on campus, Academics, Arts, and Athletics. We are able to provide our outstanding programs and events due to the support of the Booster Club.  If you are not already a member, please consider joining today.  Click HERE for more information.

Finally, it is College Week at PVHS!  Check out the schedule below.  Best of luck to our juniors who will be taking the PSAT on Wednesday, which is their one opportunity to quailfy for the National Merit Scholarship Program.  Thank you to our CCC director, Joanne Lewis, and our counseling department for coordinating these events.

Make it an awesome week Sea Kings!

Sincerely,

Dr. Trista Ramirez

PVHS Principal

PVHS COLLEGE KNOWLEDGE SERIES

October 13 at 6:30 pm (Virtual) – FAFSA Walk-Through

Seniors need to submit the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to the colleges to which they are applying in order to determine if they are eligible for any financial aid awards.  Jessica Medina Kelly, Associate Director of Outreach in the USC Financial Aid Office, will provide step by step guidance on how to complete the FAFSA. She will share tips and answer commonly asked questions about completing the form. SENIOR parents and students are encouraged to create their account and FSA ID (see link below) prior to the presentation so you can log on to the FAFSA and follow along during the presentation. Please note that it typically takes 1-3 days to verify your FSA ID. This program is targeted for parents of seniors. However, it may also be helpful for parents of juniors to attend in order to gain an understanding of the information needed to fill out this form next year.
