Dear Sea King Families,

What a great start to the school year! It was wonderful to welcome our Sea Kings back to campus last week.  There was a positive, exciting vibe both in and out of the classroom as our students were happily greeted by their teachers and peers.

As we head into our first full week of school, we will have activities focused on welcoming all of our Sea Kings to campus.  It is our goal to have activities and events this week to help our students feel connected to our school.  Please see the schedule below for our event schedule this week. On Wednesday, we have workshops scheduled for our students on a variety of topics to help them experience success here at PVHS.  This is a minimum day for all students with the day ending with an activity fair and schoolwide BBQ lunch.   We will end our week with our first schoolwide dance on Friday evening.  All students are encouraged to attend and enjoy a fun event with their fellow Sea Kings.  We hope this Welcome Week will encourage all students to get involved on campus.

Finally, please be reminded that we are a closed campus for lunch.  Our seniors do have the option to leave campus at lunch, but all other students in grades 9-11 are required to remain on campus at lunch. For our 9th -11th grade students who do not have a 3rd and/or 6th-period class, we are implementing an off-campus pass system.  Students without an afternoon class are permitted to leave campus at the start of lunch, but they must have parental permission and an off-campus pass. For more information on the off-campus pass process, please have your student stop by the office.

Let's have another great week Sea Kings!

Sincerely,

Dr. Trista Ramirez

Proud PVHS Principal

Community Connections:  Opportunities for our Sea Kings

Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools Debra Duardo is inviting students to apply for the 2022-23 Superintendent Student Advisory Council. The Superintendent Student Advisory Council was formed to bring students' views into conversations and decision-making about public education. We are looking for a diverse representation of student voices to ensure we hear from students of all achievement levels, especially those with real-world experiences who want to see a positive change in education.

The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council will include students from public high schools throughout Los Angeles County. They will engage in dialogue with Superintendent Duardo on educational equity, the quality of public education, student wellbeing and other topics of concern, advising her on key issues facing youth.

Students are currently being recruited to apply to serve on the advisory council. The group will meet virtually on a quarterly basis beginning Fall 2022 from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

Interested students will need to complete an application. They will also be required to submit a parent legal/guardian consent form to participate.
ELIGIBLE STUDENTS:
  • Enrolled at a Los Angeles County public high school
  • Grades 9-12

DEADLINE:
  • Friday, September 23, 2022, by 5 p.m.
