Saints Celebrated Today

On the Sunday that falls from the 13th to the 19th of the present month, we chant the Service to the 630 Holy and God-bearing Fathers who came together for the 4th Ecumenical Council who assembled in Chalcedon in 451, to condemn Eutyches, who taught that there was only one nature, the divine, in Christ after the Incarnation, and Dioscorus, Patriarch of Alexandria, who illegally received Eutyches back into communion and deposed Saint Flavian, Patriarch of Constantinople, who had excommunicated Eutyches.

Light a Virtual Candle

Did you know that you can light a Virtual Candle from your computer?

YOU CAN!!!

Simply click on the picture and you will be taken to our website where you can light virtual candles. There are 3 easy steps:

Take your computer mouse over the candles on the table.
Click on a candle to pick it up and bring it the the virtual flame.
Light your candle and hover over the candlestand until the base is highlighted, click on your mouse and the candle will be placed in the virtual sand!

We thank the Library/Museum Committee for overseeing the setup of the online program and of course the Internet Ministries Department of the Archdiocese who is able to make this happen!

GROWING OUR SACRAMENTAL FAMILY – Today our Cathedral Family will grow with the Chrismation of Jake DeLuca. The Chrismation Service will take place immediately prior to Holy Communion.

SAINT PAISIOS SHOWING IN MUSEUM LIBRARY– There will be 2 showings every Friday evening at 6pm. Come see the Greek television show, which will have English subtitles.

GARDENING MINISTRY - The next Gardening Ministry session will be held on July 30 at 5:30pm.

PROSPHORA – We invite you to be a provider of prosphora to be used for The Divine Liturgy. We use 5 loaves on average for each Sunday Divine Liturgy. We appreciate your help with this special offering. Please click here to learn how to bake this beautiful offering.

Each household is invited to pick up a complimentary copy of The Divine Liturgy Explained in the community center during coffee hour.

The Assumption Parish has requested to help on the 4th Sunday of every month. Anyone who is 16 or order can volunteer to help! +PROSPHORO+

Bread has been the emblem of God’s providence for us, throughout humanity’s history. Both physical (bread as food) and spiritual - the επιούσιον (epiousion) or “supersubstantial” bread of the Lord’s prayer, the bread of Holy Communion.

In the Orthodox Christian church, the pinnacle of our worship is union with Christ, both spiritually but also physically, by consuming the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Since the Last Supper, before every Divine Liturgy, one or more of the faithful prepare and bring bread to church to be used as the Body of Christ in the Eucharist. The Orthodox church is liturgical. For those of us who bake prosphoro, the liturgy begins as we prepare to bake!

Prosphoro is an offering to God, made from His material gifts to us, and prepared lovingly and prayerfully.
