A Culture of Life

Holy Hour for Life

In conjunction with our usual Holy Hour, the Respect Life Ministry will lead a Holy Hour for Life tonight, Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at 7:00pm at Queen of the Rosary. Adoration and Reconciliation will be available as usual.

12 Hours of Adoration

In conjunction with the USCCB Pro-life Secretariat, Bishop Bartosic, along with other bishops and priests from around the Archdiocese of Chicago, will lead 12 hours of Adoration from the UIC Newman Center Chapel from Thursday, January 19, 2023 at 7:00pm to Friday, January 20, 2023 at 7:00am. Closing Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Jeffrey Grob. This national prayer event will link all in solidarity for the hope of changing hearts and minds to build a culture of life and leads up to the morning of the National March for Life.

9 Days for Life

9 Days for Life is a novena for the protection of human life beginning on Thursday, January 19, 2023 and continuing until Friday, January 23, 2023. Each day’s intention is accompanied by a short reflection and suggested actions to help build a culture of life. Following this link to pray for a culture of life.

March for Life: New Name. New City. New Day. SAME MISSION...SUPPORT LIFE!

  • New Name: The March for Life Chicago is now the Illinois March for Life
  • New Location: The rally and march move from Chicago to Springfield, IL
  • New Day: Tuesday, March 21, 2023.
  • SAME MISSION: Save Midwestern Lives by marching for life in the public square!

Now, in a Post-Roe era, it is crucial to march where state laws are made and in front of the elected lawmakers. If you would like to join fellow OLBS parishioners in this year's Illinois March for Life on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 in Springfield, Illinois, follow this link to let us know of your interest. Adult Education: The Case for Jesus

Can we trust the Gospels? Do we really know who wrote them? Do the Gospels communicate truth—or fabricated fables? Who is Jesus? Who did Jesus claim to be? We join Dr. Brant Pitre as he draws evidence from both early Christian and non-Christian writings attesting to the authenticity, authorship, and dating of the Gospels, and as he gives an in-depth look at the Gospel accounts of Jesus’s Crucifixion, Resurrection, and the proclamation of Christ’s divinity.

This study begins Thursday, January 19, 2023 and will be held over Zoom. Contact the parish office to get the Zoom link. Study workbooks are $10/ea and are available in the parish office now.

Sunday of the Word of God

"He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.”

—Luke 24:45

To mark Sunday of the Word of God, Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament will prominently display the Bible in our worship spaces, and bless those who proclaim the Word of God at all of our Masses. We are also making available the Every Sacred Family 52-Week Mass Discussion Guide for the parish. This Guide provides tips for discussing each Sunday’s scripture readings as a family, with children of all ages. You will find excerpts from each Sunday in the eNews or on the Marriage & Family Resources page of the bulletin moving forward.

Annual Catholic Appeal

Many families in our parish recently received or will be receiving shortly the Annual Catholic Appeal mailing from Cardinal Cupich. On behalf of those served by the ministries, parishes, and schools that receive funding from the Appeal, we thank you for your gifts. Please return your response as soon as possible. The Annual Catholic Appeal offers a wonderful opportunity to answer the call “Walking on the road with Jesus.” In addition to providing for ministries and services throughout the archdiocese, the Appeal also funds services that are of great help here in our parish. For example, Appeal funds support Religious Education, Social Outreach and more. As we contemplate God’s many gifts to us, we should also reflect on our gratitude. Your financial support for the work of our parish, our archdiocese, and the Church throughout the world is one way to express this gratitude. Please give what you can to the 2023 Annual Catholic Appeal. Follow this link to discover more.

Donate now!

Remember that donations in excess of our Appeal Goal are returned to OLBS in the form of a rebate. The 2021 rebate funded new sound systems in both Queen of the Rosary and St. Julian worship sites, and work is beginning to upgrade video and livestream capabilities with the 2022 rebate. Fr. Dan is working with parish leadership to determine how to direct our 2023 rebate.
