Call to Worshipxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Psalm 66:1–4
Shout for joy to God, all the earth;
sing the glory of his name;
give to him glorious praise!
Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds!
So great is your power that your enemies come cringing to you.
All the earth worships you
and sings praises to you;
they sing praises to your name.”  Amen.

Hymn xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxTFWS 2001*
We Sing to You, O God

We sing to You, O God,
The Rock who gave us birth,
Let our rejoicing sing Your name
In all the earth.
To You, O God, let songs be raised,
In joyful hymns, our feast of praise.

We wandered far from home
Out in a desert land,
You shielded with Your love
Our fearful pilgrim band.
You kept us safe within
Your arms and sheltered us
Against the storm.

O God, eternal God,
We hide within Your wings,
The everlasting arms to whom
Our praises ring.
Your Word is true,
Your way is just,
You are the God in whom we trust.

Affirmation of Faith xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx UMH 881
Apostle's Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
On the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen, amen.

We Grow Through the Spoken Word

Scripture Lesson        xx       Romans 8:28-29
We know that God works all things together for good for
the ones who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose.
We know this because God knew them in advance,
and he decided in advance that they would be conformed to
the image of his Son. That way his Son would be the first
of many brothers and sisters.

Offering Interlude

Doxology
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise him, all creatures here below;
praise him above, ye heavenly host;
praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Pastoral Prayer and The Lord's Prayer

Response
Lord, may our prayer rise like incense in your sight,
May this place be filled with the fragrance of Christ. Amen.

Sermon

Hymn                      xxxxxxxxxxxxxx                        TFWS 2246
Deep in the Shadows of the Past

Deep in the shadows of the past,
Far out from the settled lands,
Some nomads traveled with their God
Across the desert sands.
The dawning of hope of humankind
by them was sensed and shown;
A promise calling them ahead,
A future yet unknown.

While others bowed to changeless gods
They met a mystery,
invisible, with out a name:
'I am what I will be',
And by their tents, around their fires,
In story, song and law,
They praised, remembered, handed on
A past that promised more.

From Exodus to Pentecost
The promise changed and grew,
While some, remembering the past,
Recorded what they knew,
And some in letters or laments,
their prophecy and praise
Recovered, kindled and expressed
New hope for changing days.

Upcoming Gatherings
August Bible Study
Bible Study with Barb will be meeting on Wednesday, August 12, on the Beatitudes from the book of Matthew. We meet at 7:00 each Wednesday evening, either in person in the Fellowship Hall (all social distancing and wearing masks observed) OR you may join via Zoom. The Zoom info is listed below.

 We are using the book The Eight Blessings by Shane Stanford about the Beatitudes as found in Matthew 5:1-13. Each week is stand-alone, so if you can only attend on differing weeks, that’s fine. You can join us whenever you are free and available.

Blessed are the merciful, the pure in heart, the peacemakers, the meek, those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, and more. Join us on Wednesday evenings and we will all be blessed together. We can overcome “these trying times.” Because we are all blessed! Call or text me, Barb Combs (419-680-2103) if you have any questions.

We are meeting on the 2nd Monday evening of each month at 7:00. We'll meet in the Fellowship Hall at 7pm August 11.

This month we’re reading The Art of Racing in the Rain, by Garth Stein. A lot of you have read this book in your book clubs or for your personal enjoyment and we would love to have you join us in the discussion this coming Monday evening. Come and tell us what you thought of the book and your favorite parts. We have a great time each month!

Here are our upcoming reads:
September 2020: Everything Happens for a Reason, by Kate Bowler
October 2020: The Road Home, by Richard Paul Evans

Spirit Journey
Our Connexion Group, Spirit Journey, is currently studying parables of the Bible. We meet on the 2nd & 4th Thursday mornings at 11:30 in the Fellowship Hall (social distancing and wearing masks observed). Some bring a lunch or snack along with them to enjoy while we’re gathering. You can also join us via Zoom. The Zoom info is listed below.

Each week we discuss a different parable, following the book Inverted by Tom Ellsworth. I have books for anyone wanting to join us; however, a book isn’t necessary to follow along. You can read the parable in the original book, the Bible!! Our next gathering will be on Thursday, August 13, with the parable of The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37). This is open to everyone! Come and see what it’s all about! Call or text me, Barb Combs (419-680-2103) if you have any questions.

Where's the Meat???
Meat collection!
There was a critical shortage of meat.

Our ministry partner, I-58 mission, desperately needs meat! Their clients need meat for a balanced diet. We will have coolers and ice to place the meat. Ground beef and chicken is most needed. Judith Glover, our dear church members and I-58 pantry coordinator, will freeze the meat if its close to expiring. If you buy large packages of meat, Judith will divide them up into family size packs.

If you are not able to drop some off on Sunday mornings, consider dropping off at I-58 M-W from 10-2.

Thank you for being the hands and feet of Christ!

💗You can drop off donations on Pastor Ashley's porch. Drop off times at I-58 are Monday through Wednesday 10:00-3:00.

Special Offering For the Annual Conference
Through August 23

Bishop Sue Haupert-Johnson has named the North Georgia Conference
Ministerial Education Fund (MEF) as the 2020 Annual Conference Special
Offering. The Ministerial Education Fund provides scholarships to
seminary and undergraduate students, course-of-study for local pastors,
and license to preach school.

Aligning with the theme of the 2020 North Georgia Annual Conference,
"One in Ministry to All the World," this fund is one way United Methodists can show our support to those called to serve as clergy. Together we can help minimize debt of North Georgia United Methodists beginning in ministry.
Grants from the Ministerial Education Fund help pay tuition and other costs for future clergy who will serve our churches or go on to be chaplains, teachers and missionaries.

MEF is a general church apportioned fund of which 25 percent is retained by our conference. But 100 percent of the giving to the Annual Conference Special Offering will go to United Methodist seminary and course of study students in the North Georgia Conference. Senoia UMC will collect this special offering from now until Sunday, August 23.

Please mark your check "Bishop's Offering" or select that on-line in the drop down box.

Thank you for supporting those called to serve.
Or mail your offering to:
