Our Financial Stewardship
2020 Year End
Thank you for your continued faithfulness. With your help we have been able to continue to minister to you and our community.

2020 was a challenging year for us all. With your help we were able to meet our obligations to support and pay for our missions, both globally and locally, our staff, our bills. Every 'belt tightening' measure that could be taken was taken. Thankfully Senoia UMC squeaked by in the black by year end.

In 2021 we expect to start returning to more 'normal' operations. In order to do this successfully we need to know that we have your support. There will be more expenses as we return to 'normal'. Thus far, 24 individuals or families have let us know what their 2021 commitment to the church will be. If you have reflected on this as part of your own 2021 planning, please let us know. You can drop a note to Lee Berry, our Finance Secretary, at office@senoiaumc.org and she will confidentially put that information into Realm on your behalf.

As we continue to worship mostly in Virtual services, we hope you will either mail in your offering or go online to give.

Spirit of the Living God, Fall fresh on me.
Spirit of the Living God, Fall fresh on me.
Melt me, mold me, Fill me, use me.
Spirit of the Living God, Fall fresh on me. Amen.

Come, Let Us Use the Grace Divine
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Come, let us use the grace divine,
and all with one accord,
in a perpetual covenant
join ourselves to Christ the Lord;
Give up ourselves, thru Jesus' power,
his name to glorify;
and promise, in this sacred hour,
for God to live and die.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The covenant we this moment make
be ever kept in mind;
we will no more our God forsake,
or cast these words behind.
We never will throw off the fear
of God who hears our vow;
and if thou art well pleased to hear,
come down and meet us now.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Thee, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,
let all our hearts receive,
present with thy celestial host
the peaceful answer give;
to each covenant the blood apply
which takes our sins away,
and register our names on high
and keep us to that day!

Confirmation
John Carter Keller, Jr
Matthew Thomas Keller

CONFIRMATION LITURGY

The pastor addresses the congregation:

Brothers and sisters in Christ:
Through the Sacrament of Baptism
          we are initiated into Christ's holy Church.
We are incorporated into God's mighty acts of salvation
           and given new birth through water and the Spirit.
All this is God's gift, offered to us without price.

Through confirmation,
and through the reaffirmation of our faith,
we renew the covenant declared at our baptism,
acknowledge what God is doing for us,
and affirm our commitment to Christ's holy Church.

RENUNCIATION OF SIN AND PROFESSION OF FAITH
The pastor addresses the candidates:
On behalf of the whole Church, I ask you:
 Do you renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness,
           reject the evil powers of this world,
           and repent of your sin?
 I do.

 Do you accept the freedom and power God gives you
           to resist evil, injustice, and oppression
           in whatever forms they present themselves?
 I do.

Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Savior,
put your whole trust in his grace,
and promise to serve him as your Lord,
in union with the Church which Christ has opened
           to people of all ages, nations, and races?
 I do.

According to the grace given to you,
will you remain faithful members of Christ's holy Church
and serve as Christ's representatives in the world?
I will.

The pastor addresses the congregation, and the congregation responds:

Do you, as Christ's body, the Church,
reaffirm both your rejection of sin and your commitment to Christ?
We do.

The pastor addresses all those transferring membership into the congregation and those who have just professed their own faith:

As members of this congregation,
           will you faithfully participate in its ministries
           by your prayers, your presence,
           your gifts, your service
and your witness?
I will.

COMMENDATION AND WELCOME

The pastor addresses the congregation:

Members of the household of God,
           I commend these persons to your love and care.
           Do all in your power to increase their faith,
           confirm their hope, and perfect them in love.
We do.

The pastor addresses those confirmed.

We Grow Through the Spoken Word

Apostle's Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
On the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

*Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen, amen.

Pastoral Prayer, Prayer for Peace and The Lord's Prayer

Prayer for Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us,
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
For ever and ever. Amen

 *Presentation and Doxology

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise him, all creatures here below;
praise him above, ye heavenly host;
praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Hymn xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Wild and Lone the Prophet's Voice
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Wild and lone the prophet's voice
 echoes through the desert still,
calling us to make a choice,
 bidding us to do God's will:
"Turn from sin and be baptized;
 cleanse your heart and mind and soul.
Quitting all the sins you prized,
 yield your life to God's control."
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"Bear the fruit repentance sows:
 lives of justice, truth, and love.
Trust no other claim than those;
set your heart on things above.
Soon the Lord will come in power,
 burning clean the threshing floor:
then will flames the chaff devour;
 wheat alone shall fill God's store."
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
With such preaching stark and bold
 John proclaimed salvation near,
 and his timeless warnings hold
 words of hope to all who hear.
So we dare to journey on,
 led by faith through ways untrod,
till we come at last like John
 to behold the Lamb of God.

 Scripture Lesson                            1 Peter 1:13-25

Therefore, once you have your minds ready for action and you are thinking clearly, place your hope completely on the grace that will be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed. 14 Don’t be conformed to your former desires, those that shaped you when you were ignorant. But, as obedient children, 15 you must be holy in every aspect of your lives, just as the one who called you is holy. 16 It is written, You will be holy, because I am holy. 17 Since you call upon a Father who judges all people according to their actions without favoritism, you should conduct yourselves with reverence during the time of your dwelling in a strange land. 18 Live in this way, knowing that you were not liberated by perishable things like silver or gold from the empty lifestyle you inherited from your ancestors. 19 Instead, you were liberated by the precious blood of Christ, like that of a flawless, spotless lamb. 20 Christ was chosen before the creation of the world, but was only revealed at the end of time. This was done for you, 21 who through Christ are faithful to the God who raised him from the dead and gave him glory. So now, your faith and hope should rest in God.
22 As you set yourselves apart by your obedience to the truth so that you might have genuine affection for your fellow believers, love each other deeply and earnestly. 23 Do this because you have been given new birth—not from the type of seed that decays but from seed that doesn’t. This seed is God’s life-giving and enduring word. 24 Thus,
All human life on the earth is like grass,
    and all human glory is like a flower in a field.
The grass dries up and its flower falls off,
25         but the Lord’s word endures forever.
This is the word that was proclaimed to you as good news.

Sermon xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Quotable Quotes

I am no longer my own, but thine. Put me to what thou wilt,
rank me with whom thou wilt.
Put me to doing, put me to suffering.
Let me be employed for thee or laid aside for thee,
exalted for thee or brought low for thee.
Let me be full, let me be empty. Let me have all things, let me have nothing.
I freely and heartily yield all things to thy pleasure and disposal.
And now, O glorious and blessed God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
thou art mine, and I am thine. So be it.
And the covenant which I have made on earth, let it be ratified in heaven. Amen.
Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Hymn xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
When Jesus Came to Jordan
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
When Jesus came to Jordan
To be baptized by John,
He did not come for pardon,
But as his Father's Son.
He came to share repentance
With all who mourn their sins,
To speak the vital sentence
With which good news begins.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
He came to share temptation,
Our utmost woe and loss,
For us and our salvation
To die upon the cross.
So when the Dove descended
On him, the Son of Man,
The hidden years had ended,
The age of grace began.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Come, Holy Spirit, aid us
To keep the vows we make,
This very day invade us,
And every bondage break.
Come, give our lives direction,
The gift we covet most:
To share the resurrection
That leads to Pentecost.

with Barb

Bible Study with Barb continues on Wednesday, Jan 13, at 7:00, either in the Fellowship Hall or via Zoom.

During January, we are studying the New Testament book of 1st Peter. Each week we will discuss how we, as believers, can be encouraged when facing trials or suffering for our faith.

This week we’ll focus on ‘our submission as believers’, reading 1st Peter 2:13 – 3:12. This is open to all persons of our church community. Come and check it out and find ways to uplift yourself!

Call or text Barb if you have any questions (419-680-2103). See you on the 13th!!

Spirit Journey

Have you ever wondered about the females in the Bible? What were they like? Did they follow all the rules for females at that time?

Well, if so, have we got something for you! Our Spirit Journey Connexion Group has chosen to read about and discuss some of the Really Bad Girls of the Bible, a book written by Liz Curtis Higgs.

We will be meeting on Thursday, Jan 14, at 1:30, in the Fellowship Hall, following all safety protocols.

A while back we learned about the bad girls of the Bible and now we want to know abut the REALLY bad girls! Come and join in as we find out if these girls really were “bad girls”. We have so much fun every time we’re together! All women are welcome and if any guy is brave enough to join us, we’d love to have you also!

The books are here, just waiting for you. Let me know if you’d like one. Call or text Barb Combs if you have any questions (419-680-2103).

Read It & Reap

The Read It & Reap book club will be meeting on Monday evening, Jan 11, at 7:00, in the Fellowship Hall, following all safety protocols.

This month we are reading and discussing
The Five People You Meet in Heaven, by Mitch Albom. This wonderful little book has been around for several years and yet is great to re-read from time to time as it possesses the magic to let us see ourselves and the world with new eyes. It’s the story of a man who, after dying, learns that heaven is a place where his earthly life is explained to him by five people who were in his life, each of whom changed his life forever.

Even if you have not yet read this book or read it sometime in the past, come and join us for our discussion as we contemplate those five people we might meet in heaven one day. All persons are welcome to come to the book club any time our monthly book interests you. We’d love to see you! Call or text me, Barb Combs, if you have any questions.
