"Projecting Justice" at Saint Mark's
NOW THROUGH JUNE 8
On May 25, the anniversary of the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, the Saint Mark’s cathedral building became a public monument. With the approval of the Vestry, and in collaboration with the ACLU of Washington and the Washington Coalition for Police Accountability (WCPA), the names of citizens killed by police will be projected onto the façade of the cathedral through June 8, in letters over three feet high. With the exception of George Floyd, all the names will be people from Seattle and Western Washington. See the complete schedule of names here.
This project intends to highlight the need for systemic change in policing as an issue of justice. ACLU-WA and WCPA have successfully pushed the state legislature to pass new laws intended to address this issue, but so much remains to be done. The message of the "Projecting Justice" project is to declare that all these deaths were unnecessary and preventable, and that there exist legal, policy, and procedural reforms that would avoid such deaths in the future. Read more about these possibilities here.

Each of these 12 weekly meetings (ok if you can’t make every one!) will start with remarks from Iyabo and then break into small groups to review our personal workbook progress and insights. The Episcopal Church's Racial Justice Audit Report and Resources Now Public
WEBINAR: TUESDAY, JUNE 1, 3 P.M, (Pacific)
After two years and more than 1,300 surveys, the ground-breaking Racial Justice Audit of Episcopal Leadership is now available to the wider church and public. The audit identifies nine “patterns” of systemic racism—ranging from the historical context of church leadership to current power dynamics—that will also be highlighted in public webinars in May and June.
You are invited to read, reflect, and share the full report available here. The executive summary is available here. Find other resources and announcements from the Racial Justice Team of the Episcopal Church here.
The Episcopal Church Racial Justice Team is also hosting webinars introducing the report and diving deeper. Register for any/all of the webinars by clicking on the dates below, or by visiting the main Racial Justice Audit website.

CREATION CARE MINISTRY
Carbon Tracker Training
Join Creation Care for an interactive training guided by Lisa Altieri, the developer of Sustain Island Home, the tool the Episcopal Church uses to measure household carbon impact. We'll learn tips and resources to make this creative, easy and accessible. After attending, you will know how to:
- Create, update and optimize your household profile
- Discover new sustainable actions
- Connect and share with others in our community
Achieving our net-zero carbon footprint by 2030 for our entire Saint Mark's community will take everyone. We have 70 households signed up now for the carbon tracker - can you help us get to 221 by the end of 2021?

¡Encuentro! Meet Each Other!
Meet People in El Salvador (via Zoom) and Hear First-Hand Their Stories – and Stories from four Saint Mark’s Folks, too!
Meet people and hear first-hand their stories of living in El Salvador, and hear the personal stories from four Saint Mark’s community members, too, for mutual sharing, as we kick-off Pride Month together with an Encuentro (gathering to get to know each other). It’s a chance for us to learn more about the situation in El Salvador, where many members of the migrant community in U.S. come from, and to hear about the Diocese of El Salvador’s work to advance LGBTQ+ rights, as we celebrate individuals’ stories and share in solidarity with LGBTQ+ members. Saint Mark’s is a supporter of the Anglican Church of El Salvador’s Santa Marta Center project, to offer shelter and services for LQBTQ+ youth and young adults, many of whom have been kicked out of their homes or deported. The Anglican Church of El Salvador is one of the few open and affirming churches in a region that has historically been (and continues to be) very hostile to LGBTQ+ people. Let’s meet each other with gratitude for this chance to begin an ongoing relationship. Email Canon Nancy Ross for the link: nross@saintmarks.org.

At the meeting on Sunday, June 13, each will have the opportunity to talk about her verse and what inspired her. More details and suggestions/instructions on writing your verse here. Who Do You Say that I Am? Christology in Daily Life with Canon Jennifer King Daugherty

Over time and across cultures, faithful people have understood Jesus the Christ in different, life-giving ways. A Cathedral Cookbook for Covidtide
DEADLINE TO CONTRIBUTE: JUNE 15
As we inch forward into a post-pandemic existence, we all had experiences that involved preparing food at home. To memorialize this piece of the pandemic experience, every household is invited to send one (only one please) recipe that you found especially meaningful for you. You are welcome to include a brief comment (not to exceed 50 words) that offers some context if you like. We will organize this and make the cookbook available in digital format for free. Please send your one recipe to cookbook@saintmarks.org no later than June 15, 2021. (If you’d like to be part of a small group to work on this project, let Dean Thomason know).

Please Support the Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza in a Time of Desperate Need
Please read this heartbreaking appeal from the Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza, where the latest horrific violence on top of the ongoing pandemic has pushed the healthcare system "far past its breaking point." Windows of the hospital have been blown out by bombs falling nearby; there is almost no electricity in Gaza so the hospital must run its generators around the clock; and they have just opened a new surgery ward to treat the flood of maimed and wounded. Dean Thomason has made a donation from the Clergy Discretionary Fund on behalf of Saint Mark's Cathedral, Seattle, and he encourages everyone to do the same, as they are able. Make a donation using this link. Please remember the staff at Ahli Arab Hospital, and all people in the region affected by the current violence and strife in your prayers.

Annual Pledge Update and Appeal
Thank you to all who have made financial commitments to support the cathedral's mission and ministries in 2021. It's never too late to make a pledge if you haven't yet! Pledge payments by several households have dropped off in the last three months. If you have the capability to catch up or even fulfill your pledge in full, we would greatly appreciate that. Please contact Erik Donner at 206-323-0300 x217 with any questions or need for assistance.

Additional times may still be added, and will appear here as they become available. Making a reservation in advance is strongly recommended. This clinic is offered in partnership with 6M Geriatrics and Hospital Medicine, a clinic located on First Hill. We are so grateful to 6M and its director Dr. Sikirat Iyabo Tinubu-Karch, MD, MHA, for the opportunity to serve the community in this profound way. Saint Mark's encourages everyone to receive a vaccine as soon as they can. Getting vaccinated protects both yourself and our entire community. Please share this information with your friends and family!
