Hikers explore the Barrens to Bald Eagle Wildlife Corridor during a previous Centred Outdoors season
Hello friends!

September adventures to remember!
Thanks to everyone who has joined us for adventures this month at Millbrook Marsh Nature Center and the Lower Trail. Both destinations are open to the public all year, so you can consider a return visit over the next several months to see how your experiences at these places might change with the seasons. How do the colors of the plants and trees change in the fall? What are the different nature sounds you hear in the winter compared with summer?

September adventures continue for three more Sundays!
This Sunday we'll head out to Dry Hollow in Warrior's Mark, approximately 30 minutes from State College, to explore a 1,271-acre area that was permanently conserved and added to Rothrock State Forest in 2021 through a partnership with ClearWater Conservancy and PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (PA-DCNR). Jana Marie Foundation will also join us on Sunday to lead nature-inspired activities for all ages throughout the day!

Then on Sunday September 18, we'll meet at the Barrens to Bald Eagle Wildlife Corridor to learn about wildlife corridors and the important role they play in local and global ecosystems.

We hope to see you on a Sunday in September!

Upcoming Adventures!
Sunday, September 11 at 1 and 3 p.m.

Dry Hollow, often referred to as β€œScotia West,” is a 1,271 acre area recently added to Rothrock State Forest and contains several Natural Heritage Areas. Dry Hollow, and its neighbor the Scotia Gamelands, is one of the largest remaining patches of pitch pine-scrub oak barrens habitat in the state and supports 26 species of plants and animals listed as critically-impaired in the state. The conservation of this region is a key focus of ClearWater for its cultural significance, ecological importance, and connectivity to the surrounding forests.

The Barrens to Bald Eagle Wildlife Corridor was conserved by ClearWater Conservancy in 2010 to create safe passage for wildlife species between Bald Eagle Mountain and the Scotia Barrens. Vernal pools allow for breeding amphibians. Young forest supports the Golden-winged warbler, American woodcock and Ruffed grouse. A wildflower meadow provides pollinator habitat for bees, moths, insects and birds while controlling invasive species. Hike along the rolling grassy trails and look for the many signs of life here. ClearWater owns and manages 39 acres of the corridor and has restored what was once a farm field into a habitat hot spot.
