Kyle P. Walker, a renowned pianist known for his passionate dedication to using music as a tool for addressing societal concerns, stands at the forefront of a musical movement. His career has garnered critical acclaim, with notable performances featured on prestigious media outlets like NPR, WQXR, and PBS. He has graced renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall's Weill Hall, Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, The Apollo Theater, and international stages from Australia's Tantaloona Cave to the Adelaide Town Hall.

In a pivotal moment, Walker's 2023 solo performance marked the debut of classical piano music at the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, TX, making waves in the industry. He is also the pianist of Dara + Kyle, a groundbreaking piano/cello duo recognized with the 2021 Chamber Music America "Ensemble Forward" career grant, devoted to championing underrepresented composers. Kyle is an integral part of The Harlem Chamber Players, bringing classical music to diverse communities, and a founding member of The Dream Unfinished, an activist orchestra supporting NYC-based civil rights organizations.

As an instructor, Walker shares his expertise as professor of piano at NYU, the Lucy Moses School at Kaufman Music Center, and The Artist Program at Suzuki on the Island. He engages students and community members in discussions about arts activism and curriculum diversity, reflecting the communities they serve. With a strong commitment to fostering musical talent, Kyle Walker's impact extends far beyond the concert stage, and his unique fusion of J.S. Juneteenth Recognition Concert June 19, 2024 *

 “New Orleans meets Harlem”

Featuring the Marcus Roberts Trio

The Festival Chamber Orchestra will join the Marcus Roberts Trio during the second half of the program to perform Rhapsody in Blue on the 100th anniversary of George Gershwin's famous composition.

The Juneteenth Concert will take place at Flagler College Lewis Auditorium

14 Grenada St., St. Augustine.

Juneteenth will be a ticketed event and more information will be provided at a later date.

*2024 is the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Civil Rights Act on July 2, 1964. This concert will be one of many events in St. Augustine during the year highlighting this historic legislation and highlighting the extensive history of Civil Rights in St. Augustine.

The Marcus Roberts Trio – a long-term musical partnership between pianist, Marcus Roberts, the phenomenal drummer Jason Marsalis, and gifted bassist Rodney Jordan

The Marcus Roberts Trio is known for its virtuosic style and entirely new approach to jazz trio performance. While most jazz trios have the piano front and center, all members of the Marcus Roberts Trio share equally in shaping the direction of the music by changing its tempo, mood, texture, or form at any time. And they do this with lightning quick musical reflexes and creative imagination. The trio is known for having almost telepathic communication on the stage. And more than a few concert goers have been heard to say that it sounds like a lot more than three people up there on the stage!

In 2007, the St. Augustine Music Festival (SAMF) was conceived as a free chamber music concert series to celebrate the rich artistic and cultural traditions of St. Augustine. The SAMF Chamber Orchestra concerts are presented at the historic Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine, a beautiful, convenient, and accessible location with exceptional acoustics. This uplifting and welcoming setting provides SAMF attendees the opportunity to deepen their appreciation for this genre of music, connect with the community, and participate in a memorable and fulfilling experience.

Celebrating almost two decades of world-class concerts, the SAMF Chamber Orchestra attracts internationally accomplished performers and young rising stars to its series roster each year. The annual festival has since become a highlight of St. Augustine’s summer season and continues to be the nation’s largest free chamber music festival.

The Mission of the St. Augustine Music Festival is to produce, perform, and promote a world-class experience of traditional and contemporary classical/chamber music to a diverse audience in an accessible, welcoming, and uplifting environment to enhance the quality of life within the community through the inspiring power of music.

You may ask, "How is the St Augustine Music Festival able to offer six chamber music concerts free to the public each year?"

As with many non-profit organizations in the community, we rely on cultural grants and the generous contributions from our many donors, individuals and corporate sponsors to pay our musicians and other ongoing expenses. Recovering from the COVID years, we were able to produce the 2023 Festival on a limited budget. Moving forward, it is necessary for SAMF to increase our budget in order to continue to attract quality musicians for future concerts.

Please consider making a donation to SAMF towards our 2024 concert season. This is an opportune time to make your donation! Not only is Tuesday, November 28 National Giving Tuesday, but you may want to consider making this donation in order to have a tax deduction on your 2023 taxes.

Or, if you have a retirement account that encourages you to spend a certain amount of money each year, you can make a contribution to the St. Augustine Music Festival as well as gain tax benefits.

A minimum donation of $5,000 will support one evening concert sponsorship during the first five of the Festival concerts. For the final concert on June 30, the minimum donation requested is $7,500.

The St Augustine Music Festival will once again have a presence at the Jacksonville "Symphony in 60" Four Seasons concert on Thursday, February 29. The doors open at 5:30 PM and the concert begins at 6:30 PM. If you plan to attend, please be sure to stop by our table and say hello.

As you consider your donation, think about the cost of attending a comparable concert... would it be $25, $40, or perhaps much more? Are you planning to attend two or three, or perhaps all six concerts? If so, then consider making a donation to SAMF that you can consider as the cost of your tickets.
