2016 Was a Busy Year for Sunflower Hill!

Sunflower Hill Livermore -- APPROVED!
We are so very grateful to the Livermore City Council for their unanimous vote of confidence and approval for Sunflower Hill Livermore - a 44 unit residential community for individuals with special needs! Livermore city staff made this project a priority from day one -- and together, with our wonderful partners, MidPen Housing
Gates  Landscaping and the Livermore Heritage Guild , we are creating a fabulous community that will truly make a difference in the Tri-Valley! We're also grateful to Tom and Luana Layton for selling us their property and to the neighbors of Pulte Estates in Livermore - who helped us create a community that took their needs into consideration as well.

It's so very hard to believe that it was just five years ago that a group of parents said --
"If not us, then who? If not now, then when?" But it is true -- SFH began in February 2012!

Over the past five years, we've been blessed with great board members and advisors - all of whom have contributed their fabulous expertise to truly ensure that SFH communities become a reality and that our garden continues to thrive. Now, with two communities in development, we will be able to offer 74 individuals with special needs a wonderful home. We know the need is urgent so we're moving as quickly as possible --- be sure to attend our  April 15th  Housing Meeting designed especially for SFH families!  You'll learn more about the process, timeline and site plans!

SFH Day at the Stable Cafe!

We are so grateful to Esther Henry-Hall, the owner of the Stable Cafe at the Pleasanton Fairgrounds! On Sunday, March 19, she graciously gave four of our SFH community members the opportunity to learn the restaurant skills of taking orders, delivering food, and bussing tables. Jake, Bruce, Blake and Josh did a great job! And Esther even made the sunflower aprons and printed our own menus! What a great morning. You can view all the photos here. Stay tuned for when we will be doing this again so you can join us! Thank you, Esther!!!!

Eagle Scout Max McGee Builds Produce Stand for Sunflower Hill!
Eagle Scout Max McGee with SFH Board Member & Gardens Director, Lynn Monica

Pleasanton Boy Scout, Max McGee, built a produce stand for his Eagle Project for us to use at our SFH Gardens at Hagemann Ranch! We will use this to sell produce to our local customers. Max, 14, is in Troop 945 and knew he wanted to create something unique and special for his Eagle Project. We are so thrilled and grateful that he chose to build this for us! It was delivered to us on March 11 and we can't wait to use it.

The Independent Newspaper covered this and you can read the article here. You can also see more pictures on our flickr page  here.

Thank you, Max!!!
