Ocean Isle Beach, NC
Ocean Isle Beach, NC - based artist Rachel Sunnell is creating her way in the Coastal Carolina's. She is a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Landscape Architecture. Rachel's love of art, nature and science led her to landscape architecture and to paint. Her design background can often be seen in her work through distant views, layering and sense of color.
As an acrylic painter, she uses loose brush strokes and color that evoke the idea of subjective realism. This refers to the reality inside the viewer's mind, perhaps a memory or a feeling. She is particularly interested in capturing the beauty of light and movement.
"The Act of painting is very personal and often takes great courage to expose one's self to the world. I strive to capture something that may evoke a memory or just feels good, past or present."

"Costco Bound" was inspired by the amazing clouds that form along the Coastal Carolina's. A mundane ordinary trip on Highway 31 becomes an adventure and ever-changing movie. The black and white values of the clouds add to the drama.
