Happy Thanksgiving Break, Lancer Families!
As we end November here on the Hills, there are so many things that I am thankful for as the Principal of this outstanding school.
First, I am so thankful for all of our amazing students, staff, parents, and community for their support, hard work, and dedication to Sunny Hills High School. You are all the reason for what we are doing here for our students each and every day. I am looking forward to finishing the semester well when we all return in a week for the start of December.
Second, I am thankful for our coaches and athletics programs, as we were able to celebrate them during our Fall Athletic Signing Day on Wednesday to highlight six Lancer student-athletes. These six have accomplished so much at SHHS, and each has an amazing future ahead of them as a collegiate athlete. I am so proud of Elayna, Jonathan, Kaia, Sophia, Jake, and Cole for representing Sunny Hills well. Great job!
Third, I am thankful for our COFA program and all it does to promote the arts at SHHS. COFA held its Fall Art Exhibition this Thursday and Friday in the PAC. What a great way to showcase all of our talented Lancer artists' work. Mr. Penuelas' theater students held their annual "Stories From Fisler," where they performed original plays written by 4th graders from our neighbors at Fisler School. Also, Ms. Stanton's Lancer Regiment competes in the 5A Championships tomorrow, November 22, at 6:30 PM at Cal High. Good luck, Lancers!
Fourth, I am thankful for our amazing PTSA for their continued and unwavering support of our students and staff. Today, PTSA provided staff with a yummy Thanksgiving Luncheon to show their appreciation for the dedication of our teachers and staff so far this year. This week, PTSA also worked with ASB to finalize the collection of donations for Pathways of Hope for Thanksgiving. Together, Sunny Hills raised over 1550 pounds of food donations that ASB organized into 93 individual baskets to help out those in need this holiday season!
Finally, I am thankful to our amazing PTSA for purchasing the latest version of our mascot, Winston the Lancer, for our students. Although Winston has been a presence on SH social media for a while, our parent group helped bring him to life for our school community! We love having him on campus to embody the Lancer Spirit and help represent all Lancers – past and present. He is also kind of a character – definitely enjoyed his “Principal for a minute” opportunity, and he is hitting the books hard in preparation for Finals, but he always makes time to hang with his fellow Lancers. ASB introduced him a couple of weeks ago at our Homecoming Assembly and Football Game with an origin story video for the ages (click here for the video). Thank you, PTSA! Go, Lancers!
As always, be sure to watch this week's episode of Sunny Side Up below, as well as scroll down for more information about this past week, the week ahead, and so much more! Also, remember to check your email, the SHHS website, and SH social media often for more important information as well.
Have a great week off - see you all back on December 1st!
