Hello!

We hope this newsletter finds you enjoying your summer, even if it is a bit different this year. As always is the case in July, events have slowed down a bit. That said, we do have a few to share including our special cooking event with our community Shaliach/emissary Nadav Shachmon on July 28th. Details can be found below.

Please continue to check the Council calendar for events which we update on a daily basis (and if you are an organization, please feel free to post your events that are open and appropriate for our community). And don't forget to check out the "On a Personal Note" section.

Have a happy and healthy weekend.

Shabbat Shalom.
Sincerely,

Lisa Roberts, President

Hadar's (Council member) Summer Programming Schedule has been issued. The full list of offerings can be found here and includes kids and teen programming.

  1. Executive Seminar: A virtual 4 day learning intensive from July 12-16, the Executive Seminar is an opportunity to immerse yourself in Torah study that is rigorous, nuanced and sensitive to the full range of human experience and emotion. Open up the world of Jewish wisdom through substantive text-based learning and conversation. This year's theme is The Torah of Covid-19: Ancient Questions in a New Reality.
  2. Grief and Mourning in a Time of Tragedy: This 3-part lecture series with Rabbi Tali Adler will be taking place July 13, 20, and 27. Experiences of tragedy have one thing in common: They force us to grapple with questions of loss, grief, and how to live in a world that contains so much of both. Grieving under normal circumstances can be crushing, and all the more so when that grief can only take place in isolation. Join us as we study Jewish texts and aim to recapture some of what has been lost in that forced private grieving.

SECURITY AND SAFETY UPDATE
" By  failing  to  prepare you  are  preparing to fail" B. Franklin
CSI OVERVIEW
In the wake of the violent attacks against Jewish targets in Pittsburgh, Poway, Jersey City and Monsey, during 2018-2019, the UJA Federation of New York (UJA) and the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York (JCRC-NY) created a new security initiative to better protect the Jewish communities in the greater NYC area. The Community Security Initiative is a multi-year program, which covers Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester and the five counties of New York City. Its goal is to enhance security by: improving the physical security of institutions, providing staff training, providing threat intelligence, assisting with assessments and grant applications, enabling connectivity with law enforcement and supplying real-time communication. To read the full CSI overview, please click here .
As always and per protocol, please report any security concerns immediately to your local Police Department and then to the Council for follow up.

Please send any security questions/concerns to  security@wjcouncil.org.
