Sunset students took their literacy outside during the beautiful days we had last week!
Sunset Ridge Families,

Again, here is the link to the class placement feedback form if you're interested. We'll be making tentative class lists in May, but realize a lot can change between then and August, when the details are released district-wide.

I had a fun opportunity to engage in an action-research project with a kiddo. It was fascinating to see the difference between how the student does when following the general curriculum and how they do when their interests are pursued.

I think it's good for all of us to remember that our sense of whether we're "good" or "smart" at something is really contextual. Whether or not the assessment is something kids are interested in or have background knowledge of or even the average performance of peers can make a difference (for example, some kids who might see themselves as struggling at this school might feel like they're advanced at another).

Helping a kid calibrate a healthy and accurate self-perception is a challenge. I'm working on that with my 12-year-old, who surprises me with conclusions he's made about himself with, in my mind, very little evidence. I found this to be a useful article - hopefully it's helpful to some of you!

We also took a vote for next year's PTA Board. Congrats to Ashley Bonavia who will be stepping up into our Board as a Vice President! We still need ONE more volunteer to be Co-Vice President with Ashley. Please reach out to the PTA to show your interest and get any additional info!
