Dear Sunset Ridge Families,
I have a few random things for this week's newsletter;
1) If you haven't already done so, you are welcome to offer feedback regarding class placement for next year in this form.
2) With low numbers of kids enrolled, we are looking at possibly reducing to 2 sections of kindergarten next year so we did some internal shuffling. At one point, it looked like Abby Ruesink might be moving to 2nd grade (when we were looking like we were going to reduce in 4th grade), but she'll be staying in 4th, and Wendy Judd volunteered to move to 2nd grade. Even with 25 years of experience in the district, she's ready for a new challenge!
3) I have to give a "shout out" to Tara Franklin, who spent several hours over the weekend setting up a truly remarkable literacy-themed mini-golf experience. It's beautiful, creative, exciting for kids ... in my decades in education, I've rarely seen something like that. Teachers go above and beyond all of the time in hidden ways, but I figured I'd acknowledge this very public display of providing a great experience for Sunset Ridge kids.
4) Jean Piaget was a Swiss Psychologist who was profoundly influential in education. His theory of the moral development of children is something I've been thinking about as my son ages (he's 12 now) ... there is a mystery to child development as things seem to just "happen" and they change in front of our eyes. It's been frustrating for me as a parent at times (right now, I'm like, "Why can't you keep track of your jackets?") and at times rewarding (like now he's interested in actually concentrating in museums). Parenthood is quite the adventure!
Thanks for sharing your wonderful kiddos with us :-)
