New Orleans based clarinetist Ben Redwine feels equally comfortable playing Brahms or Ellington. He is devoted to the performance of new classical music and old jazz, as well as to teaching the next generation of performers and teachers.
In addition to leading his popular traditional style jazz band, the Redwine Jazz Band, Ben is a Selmer Paris performing artist, a D'Addario performing artist and a Rovner Ambassador, presenting concerts and master classes internationally. He has recorded for Mapleshade, Naxos, Vin Rouge, Big Kahuna, Antidote Sounds and AmCam record labels.
Bring your chairs, your snacks and your smiles. It's time to chill.

We the City, continue to struggle with utility billing. Of our four meter technicians, two quit in the past several weeks ... leaving us short-staffed. This results in meter readings that are both late and for longer periods of time (e.g. 45 - 50 days rather than 25 - 30). This longer billing cycle means a higher bill than normal. Please be patient as we work to rebuild this service. Unfortunately, hiring and training new techs will take time.

Tire Disposal Day was Really Big
|
|
|
Many residents recently brought their old tires for proper disposal to Rev. Peter S. Atkins Park.
However, it got much bigger than that. Almost 400 tires were dropped off ... leading us to believe we (the City) serviced, in addition to the City, much of unincorporated St. Tammany Parish.
And that's a good thing.

A few months ago the West 30's Redemption Company moved three more families into safe and affordable housing. To keep costs down, no yard work is included.
Kudos to the St. Paul's Seniors who cleaned the yards and continue to maintain them (these particular senior citizens lack the means and physical ability to do so).
But the students want more ...

The boys have communicated that sod should be planted to replace the weeds Spring has brought forth.
I'll be reaching out to a sod company on possibly helping with this endeavor. If you know of a landscape company that might be inclined to help with grading and prep, please share this need.
As always with private property, no city / tax dollars can or will be used.
If you have a notion to help in some fashion, please respond to this e-mail.
Much appreciated, Mayor Mark

Soul Train Revue
Dedicated to Roy Mouton
|
|
Recently friends and neighbors met at Rev. Peter S. Atkins Park to enjoy Dat Band's Soul Train Revue ... dancing and funking to the sounds of the '70s.
The evening's concert was dedicated to Mr. Roy Mouton who, as a music teacher and a mentor, changed hundreds of lives for the better throughout the Covington community.
"Roy Mouton, usually known simply as Mouton, was far more than a music teacher. He founded the St. Paul’s High School Marching Band, making it into the Southern Gentlemen and the finest high school show band in Louisiana.
He continued that tradition for many years at Covington High School.
He and his wife Alfreda, were a business couple, entrepreneurs and outstanding role models. In the 1970s Mouton was a member of The Mighty 15, a benevolence group of Black men that awarded scholarships and helped needy families.
I can think of no better way to honor his public service to our community than dedicating tonight’s sounds from the '70s to him."
