Pneumonia Warning

There has been an increase in Mycoplasma pneumoniae (M. pneumoniae) cases nationwide, including in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia areas.

M. pneumoniae can cause mild pneumonia, often called "walking pneumonia," because it usually doesn't require hospitalization. However, in some cases, it can lead to more severe pneumonia that may require medical treatment. When children need hospital care due to pneumonia, M. pneumoniae is the most common bacterial cause of the infection.

Symptoms of an M. pneumonia infection include fatigue, chills, fever, chest pain, and a dry cough that produces little mucus. If your child experiences any of these symptoms, it's important to contact us to determine the best course of action and ensure proper care.
