Measles Vaccination Information

Since the beginning of this year, more than 200 measles outbreaks have been reported across multiple states -- including Maryland and Virginia.

Measles is a contagious viral infection that can be serious for children, especially babies. Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, and a rash. Measles can also lead to pneumonia, encephalitis, blindness, and death.

Health experts recommend two doses of the MMR or MMRV vaccine as the best way to protect against measles.

  • 12–15 months old: 1st dose

  • 4–6 years old: 2nd dose

Breastfeeding Improves Heart Health In Children

Breastfed babies have a lower risk of asthma, obesity, type 1 diabetes, and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). And now, a new study finds breastfeeding can also promote lower blood pressure among children.

Longer-term breastfeeding appears to populate a baby’s gut with diverse bacteria that could help lower blood pressure.

Children who were breastfed for at least six months had lower blood pressure at age 6, researchers report in the Journal of the American Heart Association.
