In yoga, we aim for steadiness (sthira) and ease (sukha) with every pose and every breath. It is a misconception that yoga should be complicated and overly strenuous. Actually, the best yoga practice contains a simplistic flow that is challenging and rewarding for our bodies and mind. When we feel our breathing strained and labored, it is time to slow down. Much like finding balance in our everyday life.
Carrie found our studio and used her yoga practice to find that sukha and sthira unlocked doors to her body and mind.
Meet Carrie, this is her story.
Yoga has been a part of my life on and off for 20 years. Each time I return to it I learn something new about my practice and about myself. When I was pregnant with my third child I found a prenatal yoga class that had a huge impact on my whole experience of pregnancy and childbirth. That's when I began wanting to share what I learned with others and I became a childbirth doula and educator. Soon after, I took a prenatal yoga certification, but there was still something missing. I didn't know how to teach yoga. I quietly stalked Sunshine Yoga Shack from behind my computer screen for months until I got the nerve to sign up and go for a class. I immediately felt at home and my fears and nerves subsided. Lynn's training and mentorship was the beginning of my ongoing journey to become a healed and whole person and share the incredible benefits of yoga with anyone that will listen.
For me, the magic happens when I reach a new level of stillness in my practice. Whether it's moving further into a pose than I ever thought possible, reaching a new capacity in my lungs, or deeper understanding in my meditation practice. I've struggled with anxiety for many years and sometimes the struggle is very real to get my mind to stop overthinking and find calm. Yoga unlocks doors to my body and mind, allows me the space to find the quiet, and creates a desire to learn something new each time I get on the mat.
Simply put, yoga makes everything better and the Sunshine community is like the cherry on top. You can join me on the mat Sundays at 10 am, I hope to see you there.
