What do you see when you look in the mirror? As time goes on, I ask myself sometimes, is this what I look like? I remember an advertisement for Dove many years ago that had women describe themselves to portrait artists. At the same time, a stranger also described the same woman to the same artist. The portraits were so very different. The self-described picture was distorted and did not resemble the woman at all. However, the stranger's image was more attractive and closely resembled the woman.
What does this say about how we see ourselves? The things we think and the things we believe distort our view of the world. They can often distort how we see ourselves. If we apply limiting beliefs to ourselves, our reflections, and our way of thinking, we are ultimately hurting ourselves and probably those around us.
It is said that yoga calms the distortions of the mind. This stillness gives us a clear vision of the world and ourselves. So, what do you see when you look in the mirror? It could tell you more than you think.
