Wines you didn't know were cool (staff selections):
Emily's Pick:
Morotti Campi, "Orgiolo" Lacrima di Morro d'Alba Superiore (2014)

Who doesn't like getting flowers? The Lacrima grape is so exceptionally aromatic, it's as if your significant other bought and delivered the whole flower shop to your glass. This grape is native to the region of--you would never guess--Lacrima di Morro d'Alba. It's a unique flavor with notes of pink peppercorns, herbs, roses (obviously) and velvety black and dark red fruits.
Dave's Pick:
Bhilar, Rioja (2015)

Sourced from the high altitude vineyards of Rioja Alavesa, this value driven red has bold berry fruit framed by spice, brambly earth and a bracing freshness provided by well draining, chalky soil. This wine has plenty of interest while remaining elegant and approachable. Delicious on its own, its even better then most Riojas with food. Try with a meaty stew.
The Star Tribune's (Super Bowl) Wine of the Week:
Domaine Mas de Rey, Coeur de Camargue (2015)

"Winter usually is associated with red wines but sometimes an aromatic, energetic white is just the ticket. The Coeur de Camargue 2015 is just such a treat, with a heady nose, gorgeous stone and citrus fruit flavors, and a persistent, refreshing finish. The “lift” in this white blend comes from mouthwatering mineral notes and just a bit of saline, not surprising since the grapes are sourced a few miles from the Mediterranean Sea. Ideal for a Super Bowl (or other) party thanks to its affinity for appetizers, this French beauty also should play well with most any preparation of fish or fowl." -Bill Ward

Forlorn Hope, "The Kerrigans" Carignan (2015)
