All About Kingston: The Hudson Valley was the location of much of the action that followed the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In 1777 the British torched over 300 homes, barns, and outbuildings in Kingston; the capitol of New York at that time. Many of those old stone houses were quickly restored and are still occupied today. The old churchyard cemeteries are filled with flags waving on Revolutionary War soldiers' graves. History is alive here!
