Josh Flag signs Million Dollar Listing at Outwrite Bookstore & Coffeehouse Friday, May. 20, 2011 7:30 PM
Bravo TV reality star Josh Flagg to read from memoir 'Million Dollar Agent' at Outwrite May 20
JOSH FLAGG, star of Bravo TV's hit reality series "Million Dollar Listing" comes to Outwrite on FRIDAY, MAY 20, at 7:30 p.m., to read from and talk about his memoir, MILLION DOLLAR AGENT: BROKERING THE DREAM (Polimedia).
This event is free and open to the public.
Josh joined the cast of "Million Dollar Listing" in Season 2 (2008). The reality show follows the lives of three of Los Angeles' hottest, young, and aggressive real estate magnates-in-the-making as they increase their fortunes selling multi-million dollar properties in the most exclusive neighborhoods - Hollywood, Malibu, and Beverly Hills. Season 4 (2011) follows Josh and the other agents as they deal with some of the most demanding clients they have ever encountered. They are pushed to the limit and struggle to manage their personal lives while also trying to move some of the most magnificent and most expensive homes in the City of Angels.
In MILLION DOLLAR AGENT, Josh shares with readers his unique childhood, his lavish and over the top lifestyle, his "coming out" and partner Colton, as well the inspirations and experiences that made him the passionate and incredibly informed real estate agent we love to watch. It was after finishing his first book about his famous grandmother, Edith Flagg (the woman who brought polyester to the United States), that he decided to pen his own memoirs and write an inspirational how-to book for making it in the dog-eat-dog world of real estate.
Josh began working in high-end residential real estate immediately after graduating from Beverly Hills High School in 2004. Within the first four years of his career, he had participated in several record sales, making him one of Los Angeles' hottest agents.

Star Jones signs Satan's Sisters at Outwrite Bookstore & Coffeehouse Tuesday, May. 24, 2011 7:30 TV veteran Star Jones reads from her novel 'Satan's Sisters' at Outwrite May 24 STAR JONES, a veteran of more than 20 years in television, visits Outwrite on TUESDAY, May 24, at 7:30 p.m., to read from and answer questions about her first novel, SATAN'S SISTERS: A NOVEL WORK OF FICTION (Gallery Books).
This event is free and open to the public. Preferred seating is available with advance purchase of the book at Outwrite.
Set in the bright lights and live feed of daytime television, SATAN'S SISTERS spins an irresistible tale of ruthless ambition, guarded secrets, back-stabbing drama, true sisterhood, and an unforgettable tour backstage where the real "talk" takes place. Welcome to The Lunch Club, the venerable daytime talk show where backstabbing and bridge-burning are as common as cheating celebrity husbands and botched Botox - and those are just the guests!
To the millions of viewers, watching this manufactured "sisterhood" is a daily ritual and a guilty pleasure. Led by the ruthlessly competent and icily perfect veteran diva of all things television, Maxine Robinson, all five of the female co-hosts on their trademark red couch have a distinct part to play. If power grabs, competition for airtime, and outsized ambitions make for a bumpy ride... well, that usually stays between the five of them - and definitely behind the scenes. Until...
Blending sisterhood, sex, betrayal, and the drama of good old daytime television, SATAN'S SISTERS delves into each Lunch Club lady's scintillating underworld, exposing hidden addictions, forbidden lovers, shocking family secrets, and false accusations.
Jones is an attorney, television personality, former prosecutor, political insider, philanthropist, author, lecturer. As one of the original co-hosts and nine-year veteran of ABC's The View, she has an insider's perspective of what goes on behind the scenes in daytime talk television. Star is also author of two best selling nonfiction books, You Have to Stand for Something... or You'll Fall for Anything and Shine: A Physical, Emotional and Spiritual Journey to Finding Love.

Queer America
-Vicki L. Eaklor
New Press

NEW IN PRINT In these opening years of the 21st century in the United States, perhaps no topic is more divisive than homosexuality, particularly when it is coupled with the deeply rooted concept of civil rights. The same-sex marriage debate, for example, is but part of a larger discussion over issues crucial to American life, such as the role of law in the lives of individuals, relationships among law, economics, and morality, and the values thought to distinguish and define us. GLBT history is not just the struggle for rights, it is people simply living their lives the best they knew how regardless of the terms they or others use for them. This work focuses on U. S. history and, within that, the 20th century, particularly because the vast majority of work in GLBT history has been during this place and time. Major issues and events such as the Stonewall riot, Don't Ask, Don't Tell in the military, same-sex marriage, gay rights, gay pride, organizations and alliances, AIDS, and legal battles and court casesare discussed. |

Is This The Real Life?
-Mark Blake
Da Capo Press

NEW IN PRINT Queen's success in the 1970s was accompanied by a taste for musical and non-musical excess. Is This the Real Life? draws on eyewitness testimonies-former producers and managers, ex-girlfriends and boyfriends-to create a complete picture of one of the world's most ambitiously driven rock bands at work and at play. Revealing Queen's complex dynamic, Blake also explores how Freddie Mercury's sexuality alienated some of the band's fan base, how they reinvented themselves by morphing from hard rock to pop, and how they saw out their final years as Mercury became one of the most successful rock stars in the world

Seven Dirty Words
-James Sullivan
Da Capo Press

NEW IN PRINT George Carlin's comic material represents the most enduring legacy of the countercultural revolution of the 1960s. If acid rock, Victorian clothing, Aquarian spirituality, and radical pranksterism have all fallen by the wayside as musty remainders of the hippie heyday, Carlin came to embody the indefatigable questioning of authority that was the true legacy of the 1960s. |

Steven Petrow signs Complete Gay & Lesbian Manners at Outwrite Bookstore & Coffeehouse Tuesday, Jun. 7, 2011 7:30 PM
Syndicated columnist Steven Petrow reads from his new book of etiquette at Outwrite June 7
STEVEN PETROW, a syndicated columnist on GLBT manners for more than ten years, visits Outwrite on TUESDAY, JUNE 7, at 7:30 p.m., to read from and answer questions about his new book of etiquette, STEVEN PETROW'S COMPLETE GAY & LESBIAN MANNERS: THE DEFINITIVE GUIDE TO LGBT LIFE (Workman Publishing). This event is free and open to the public.
If a child has two moms and a known sperm donor, what does he or she call them? If you're the victim of anti-gay bullying, how do you respond and stay safe? If you're persona non grata to your lover's parents, how do you handle the holidays and family gatherings?
These are just three of the hundreds of questions that STEVEN PETROW'S COMPLETE GAY & LESBIAN MANNERS grapples with head on. This definitive new guide covers all of the big milestones for LGBT people - coming out, sex and dating, commitment ceremonies, starting a family - plus day-to-day stuff, like introducing your partner at the office, using Facebook wisely, and surviving the holidays. It's also an up-to-date reference book for their straight friends, family members, and co-workers. At a time when American society is at a crossroads over LGBT issues, STEVEN PETROW'S COMPLETE GAY & LESBIAN MANNERS offers practical wisdom - and a lively wit - for the awkward, often joyful, and sometimes painful social situations that modern life confronts us all with.
Until now there's been nowhere for LGBT people to turn for such advice. Mainstream etiquette books generally ignore gay issues - indeed, Amy Vanderbilt's The Complete Book of Etiquette restricts discussion of gay families to a section about "breakdown" of the family. Those authors don't explain the mechanics of important life issues like planning a funeral or composing an obituary when a partner's family doesn't recognize your status as next-of-kin.
Petrow is the author of five books including The Real World Guide to Coming Out and The Essential Book of Gay Manners & Etiquette. He researched the new guide for more than two years by interviewing workplace and wedding specialists, lawyers and doctors, financial advisors, psychologists, and others.
