Dear Wiseburn Families and Friends,
The holiday break is upon us and the crisp, cool temperatures are a reminder that we are amidst the winter months. I can hardly believe that in just a few short weeks we will ring in the new year, and I am hopeful and assured that 2020 will be a tremendous time in Wiseburn. There are truly very few places left in the greater Los Angeles area like our special District that greatly values community engagement, stakeholder collaboration, problem-solving, and a commitment to education and the students we serve.
I want to thank our music team for ushering in the holiday break with phenomenal performances at all grade levels! From our youngest TK students to a combined Dana Middle School and Da Vinci Schools performance I was impressed and grateful for the opportunity to see the performances. I am continually thankful to the Wiseburn Education Foundation for helping to make this possible and share the sentiments of President Anne Tittle who said her heart was “filled with joy” seeing the students excel on stage.
As we gear up in Wiseburn for the new year, I am reminded of all the promising and impactful work our team engages in daily. The teachers and support staff are amazing! And, our students continue to amaze all with whom they come in contact for being innovative, critical thinkers, and problem solvers. The students of WUSD enjoy so many engaging, rigorous, and exciting opportunities to learn. Our facilities, too, continue to shine under the watchful eyes of a dedicated grounds and custodial crew.
On this same note, I would like to extend a special thanks to all our community members who have contributed to the Long-Range Facilities Master Plan. Through this process, the team of staff, Board Members, and community members have discussed Wiseburn’s facilities in relation to the future educational needs of our students. I look forward to continuing the work over the next couple of months as a facilities master plan is further developed by the Wiseburn team.
WUSD never rests on its laurels and works continually to improve. After receiving feedback from our families and in continuing our commitment to meeting the needs of our community, we are initiating a separate study in relation to our preschool and after school programs. In early January our families will receive a survey regarding our current programs and future needs. We encourage our WUSD families not only to complete this survey, but to send the survey to any resident/neighbor who may benefit from providing information on these topics.
Lastly, I extend a special thank you to the WUSD Trustees! Mrs. JoAnne Kaneda just completed her two-year term as President of the Board and her leadership has been a true blessing to the entire community. Mr. Roger Bañuelos concluded his two-year term as Vice President and Clerk of the Board and was integral in supporting the completion of Wiseburn’s High School campus and the adjacent Sports Complex. I look forward to the next phase and am excited to work with Mr. Israel Mora the new WUSD Board President and Dr. Neil Goldman the new Vice President and Clerk as we continue supporting the excellence in education that is Wiseburn. Also, I would like to recognize Board Member, Mr. Nelson Martinez for his continued commitment to the Wiseburn community.
We have enjoyed a very nice and busy start to the school year. I hope that during the holiday season everyone has an opportunity to share quality time with their families and friends. Have a happy holiday season!
