Dear South Lane Families,

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! Whether you are returning to our district or joining us for the first time, we're thrilled to have you with us. 

This past Wednesday marked the end of a busy summer for South Lane. Many staff members in our maintenance, food service, technology, and transportation departments worked tirelessly all summer to prepare for students to return to class.  We also had 4 different summer programs happening in our schools which included teachers, office staff, educational assistants, and other support staff.  In addition to these efforts, many of our teachers participated in training and further education to prepare them to meet the needs of all of our students.  It was a great, but busy summer!

Wednesday also marked the beginning of a very promising year.  Many South Lane students were back in their classrooms today, and it was great to see them getting started on a new school year.  I saw elementary students eating breakfast together, and preparing for their day.  I witnessed middle school students working with their teacher to set routines for the year.  Ninth grade students at CGHS were learning from experienced students what it will take to be successful.  It was a great first day!

As you know, student academic success is our ultimate goal in South Lane.  As we focus on success for EVERY student, we have three main goals:  

First, we want every student to acquire the Reading, Math and other skills necessary to be prepared for their lives and careers after high school.  Our teachers are organized in teaching teams that focus on what students need to know and be able to do, what we need to do if they don’t learn what we are teaching, and what we can do to extend learning for students who already know the material.

Second, we want students to make a connection between what they are learning in school and what they will do after high school. We also want them to be able to have real-world experiences while still in high school that will allow them to learn the professional skills necessary to be successful in whatever career they ultimately choose. 

Third,  We want students to have the social and emotional skills necessary to cope with what comes their way during these formative years so that they can learn.  

This is our focus. We look forward to partnering with you in your child's education and are excited to work together to make this school year a positive and rewarding experience. Estimadas familias de South Lane,

¡Bienvenidos al año escolar 2024-2025! Ya sea que regresan a nuestro distrito o se unen a nosotros por primera vez, estamos encantados de tenerlos con nosotros.

El miércoles pasado marcó el final de un verano muy ocupado para South Lane. Muchos miembros del personal de nuestros departamentos de mantenimiento, servicio de alimentos, tecnología y transporte trabajaron sin descanso durante todo el verano para preparar el regreso a clases de los estudiantes. También tuvimos 4 programas de verano diferentes en nuestras escuelas que incluyeron maestros, personal de oficina, asistentes educativos y otro personal de apoyo. Además de estos esfuerzos, muchos de nuestros maestros participaron en capacitaciones y educación adicional para prepararlos para cubrir las necesidades de todos nuestros estudiantes. ¡Fue un verano fantástico, pero ocupado!

El miércoles también marcó el comienzo de un año muy prometedor. Muchos estudiantes de South Lane regresaron a sus salones de clases ayer y fue genial verlos comenzar un nuevo año escolar. Vi a estudiantes de primaria desayunando juntos y preparándose para su día. Fui testigo de cómo los estudiantes de secundaria trabajaban con sus maestros para establecer rutinas para el año. Los estudiantes de noveno grado en CGHS estaban aprendiendo lo que se necesita para tener éxito de los estudiantes con experiencias. ¡Fue un gran primer día!

Como saben, el éxito académico de los estudiantes es nuestro objetivo principal en South Lane. Como nos centramos en el éxito de CADA estudiante, tenemos tres objetivos principales:

Primero, queremos que cada estudiante adquiera las habilidades de lectura, matemáticas y otras habilidades necesarias para estar preparados para sus vidas y carreras después de graduarse. Nuestros maestros están organizados en equipos de enseñanza que se enfocan en lo que los estudiantes necesitan saber y poder hacer, lo que debemos hacer si no aprenden lo que estamos enseñando y lo que podemos hacer para aumentar el aprendizaje de los estudiantes que ya conocen el material.

Segundo, queremos que los estudiantes establezcan una conexión entre lo que están aprendiendo en la escuela y lo que harán después de graduarse. También queremos que puedan tener experiencias del mundo real mientras aún están en la escuela preparatoria que les permitan aprender las habilidades profesionales necesarias para tener éxito en cualquier carrera que finalmente escojan.

Tercero, queremos que los estudiantes tengan las habilidades sociales y emocionales necesarias para hacerle frente a lo que se les presente durante estos años de aprendizaje para que puedan aprender.

Este es nuestro enfoque. Esperamos colaborar con usted en la educación de su hijo y estamos entusiasmados de trabajar juntos para hacer de este año escolar una experiencia positiva y gratificante.
