Empowering Student Success
One of the key insights we heard from our community meetings during the strategic planning process was the desire for students to receive relevant, engaging instruction that helps them develop the essential skills they need to be successful. This commitment to academic excellence remains a central priority in our strategic plan and we are dedicated to continuing to fulfill this promise.
Recently, Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools (PLSAS) partnered with several other districts as part of a Changemaker Hub event for over one hundred high school students. The day was designed for districts to engage in a student-centered approach to vision the future of education and what the school experience should be. I was blown away by the conversations I was a part of, to hear from our students what their current experiences in high school are juxtaposed to what they strongly desire.
Students know what they need and they tell us everyday. During the Changemaker Hub we learned that for many students, what matters is to build stronger, more collaborative relationships with adults at school, have more flexible learning environments and for us to prepare them for real-world encounters they will need to thrive in this complex world.
The event provided an opportunity to uplift the voices of our students to declare what matters most to their success and how the adult ecosystem can be more responsive to their needs. It’s just one way we can begin to design together, listen to multiple perspectives and lived experiences, and shape youth-led solutions to challenges facing education and even our world.
I believe one of the reasons our MN Center for Advanced Professional Studies (MNCAPS) program is so successful and popular is because students get to realize their strengths and passions by exploring and experiencing potential professions. They are immersed in real-world, project-based learning through collaborations with business and community partners. These interactions enhance the learning experience, preparing students for college and career.
The district’s goal is to sustain and enhance academic programs that support student success. As part of the November 5th operating levy proposal, we seek financial stability to expand student offerings aligned with our Strategic Plan. A key priority is the growth of the MNCAPS program, which will meet the increasing student demand for real-world, hands-on learning by expanding space and strengthening business partnerships. At the heart of our mission is a commitment to inspire and empower every student to reach their full potential. Together, through thoughtful collaboration and listening to our students, we can shape an educational experience that equips all students to thrive in an ever-changing world.
