A Message from Superintendent Pero:
Voluntary COVID-19 Testing and a Well-Being Check-In
Superintendent of Schools
Michael Pero
Last week PCSD began to voluntarily administer COVID-19 rapid tests to 20% of students and staff members in all buildings and departments in an effort to support the health and wellness of our school community. Twenty percent of our in-person students and staff equates to approximately 1,200 tests. With the rise in the COVID-19 regional infection rate in early January, the District determined it was a prudent time to re-administer COVID-19 rapid tests to serve as a...

BOARD INSIGHT: The Search for Hope Through Silver Linings
Follow any social media platform in this new year, and you’re likely to see a GIF or meme half-jokingly reminding us that “Hindsight is 2020.” Maybe that’s better said, “2020 is now in our rearview mirror.” Good riddance. This month’s "Board Insights" article could easily be spent belaboring the year that was. Who could argue with our using this space to remember the suffering and sacrifice, the loss of life and livelihood...

Higher Risk Sports Approval
Late last Friday PCSD learned of the Governor’s approval to begin higher risk sports so long as school districts have the consent of local public health directors. Following discussions with the athletic officials throughout the area, and with a thorough review of guidelines issued by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHAA), Dr. Mendoza has given approval for these sports to begin...

Budget Development Meeting Schedule

The development of a school district’s budget is a thoughtful, year-long process that includes careful long-term planning. It is a multi-faceted process including budget preparation, presentation, review by the Board of Education and community members, formal budget adoption, further sharing with the community, and Board election. The 2021-22 budget will be unique as it will reflect expenses related to...

SUPERINTENDENT'S ENEWSLETTER: Share with others!
Monthly, I will be sending a newsletter with information about initiatives, challenges and successes that occur throughout the school year, and I am really excited about connecting with the PCSD community in this way. From time to time we may include a new section called “Fact Checker.” Fact Checker provides a way for us to clarify and/or correct inaccurate information that may be circulating in the community. Advances in technology have raised the expectation of information being shared and received in a timely manner, and I look forward to bringing this information to you.
The eNewsletter will be produced monthly and shared with the community via email, the website and links from Twitter and Facebook. Parents and guardians with children enrolled in PCSD schools and staff members will automatically receive the Superintendent's eNewsletter. Other PCSD community members may subscribe to the Superintendent's eNewsletter here: SUBSCRIBE
