ABOUT THE DISTRICT

The Superintendent of Education serves as the chief executive officer of the school district and is responsible to the Board of Trustees for ensuring compliance with all board policies and Mississippi State Board of Education rules and regulations, as well as state and federal laws.

The McComb School District was established in 1890. The goal of the district is to create an educational system where student success is inevitable and all students are cultivated to become fierce competitors in a global society. We believe we have the power to transform educational opportunities for our children.

The district currently has an enrollment of 2,121 in 8 schools:

  • Kennedy Early Childhood Center
  • Otken Elementary School
  • Summit Elementary School
  • Higgins Middle School
  • Denman Junior High School
  • McComb High School
  • Business & Technology Complex
  • TAC Alternative School

The district has a world-class Fine Arts program. The director of the program works side by side with teachers to help ensure that arts are infused into their classrooms. All students have the opportunity to audition for parts in various arts presentations. A major presentation this school year was The Lion King Jr, which was enjoyed by all who attended and received rave reviews for the excellence in its planning and delivery.

We are very proud to have a nurse housed in every school. Just a few of the services provided by the full-time registered nurse at each campus include health assessments and screening, management of chronic illnesses, medication administration, and direct nursing care for those who are sick or injured. Scholars with mental health needs have access to therapy/counseling and medication management through a partnership with the University of Mississippi Center for Telehealth.

Visits are attended in the school nurse's office, maintaining privacy and with minimal time out of the classroom. Appreciating that health affects the ability to learn, McComb School District's Registered Nurses strive to keep scholars healthy, safe, and ready to learn. Programs are designed to protect and promote the health of our scholars and staff, aiming to positively impact academic success for all.

McComb School District currently employs Security Resource Officers and one School Safety Officer. Their mission is to keep our children safe, with their number one priority being assisting in creating and maintaining a safe, secure, and nurturing learning environment for students, staff, and school visitors by working hand in hand with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

This mission is accomplished primarily through the following model: Prevention, Observation and Reporting. The McComb School District School Safety Department strives to support the educational needs of the school district and the community they serve. Their primary goal, within the limits of the law. The authority granted by the School District is to protect the persons and property of the district.
