Have a Wonderful Holiday Break

Dear Brecksville-Broadview Heights City Schools Community,

The holiday season has arrived, and with it, the sense of accomplishment that many initiatives at all grade levels have launched and are propelling the BBHCSD toward the elite status of being a destination school district. During this time, we express our gratitude to the students, our staff, and the families of the BBHCSD who together help create the educational standard for success. To our extended BBHCSD supporters in the community, we express our heartfelt gratitude as well.

A reminder that Winter Break runs from Monday, December 22nd through Sunday, January 4th. Classes resume for students and staff on Monday, January 5th.

Organizational Meeting on Wednesday, January 7th

The Organizational Meeting for the BBHCSD Board of Education will be held on Wednesday, January 7th at 5 p.m. at the Board Office, during which Tish Kwiatkowski and newly elected member Brad Chase will be officially sworn in. This moment gives the district an appropriate opportunity to express our gratitude to Ellen Kramer, who will complete her duties as a Board Member at the end of the calendar year. Mrs. Kramer has served 8 years on the Board of Education, and in that time, has been a tireless advocate for the students, staff, and helped set a positive strategic direction for the Brecksville-Broadview Heights City Schools. We thank her for her service, and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.

Coffee Talk Combines with PSO Gathering Earlier this Month

Thank you to everyone who attended last week’s Coffee Chat at Panera Bread, particularly the members of the PSO, who attended and participated in the conversation. Upon finalization of the meeting dates for the Board of Education in the new term, a full calendar of future coffee chats will be posted. Lively engagement, matter-of-fact dialogue, questions, answers, and community support all characterize these coffee discussions. Thank you to the community for its desire to fulfill our mission to be educated, empowered, and engaged.

Ledger and Leader Features Mr. Jakub and Mr. Backo

Be sure to watch the latest Ledger and Leader podcast, which features Mr. Jakub and Mr. Backo from the High School discussing the important topics of appropriate behavior standards, anti-bullying, and what parents and students can expect if they find themselves in such a circumstance. The podcast is another tool the district uses for sharing updated and vital content in an engaging and innovative manner. Check out the latest podcast on the district website.

BBHHS National Honor Society Induction Ceremony

Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School hosted its eighty-first National Honor Society induction ceremony on Thursday, December 4, 2025, in the Auditorium before an audience of current members, staff, and families. Congratulations to this year’s approximately ninety-two inductees for their solemn dedication to the four pillars of National Honor Society, including leadership, scholarship, service, and character. You are to be commended for your dedication to maintaining such high standards.

Interactive Activity Brings Revolutionary War Era to Life for Eighth Graders

Students in the eighth grade History classes at Brecksville-Broadview Heights Middle School recently had the unique opportunity to learn about everyday life in colonial America through an engaging, hands-on approach. A diverse collection of replica artifacts including clothing, coins, kitchen utensils, games, and other everyday items was featured as part of an exciting learning activity. Eighth grade students also had the chance to explore an assortment of replica artifacts and scan the nearby QR Code sticker to learn more about the historical item. Various flags from the Revolutionary War era were also displayed for students to examine. Throughout the experience, students expressed curiosity and fascination while exploring in a hands-on manner the history of our nation’s founding. Thank you to our eighth grade U.S. History teachers Mr. McNamara and Mr. McCrodden for providing students an unforgettable learning experience!

4th Grade Team Earns First Place at Young Astronaut Day Event

Brecksville-Broadview Heights Intermediate School was proudly represented at the Young Astronaut Day 2025 program which was held last month at the Ohio Aerospace Institute in Brook Park, Ohio. This year’s activities centered on the theme of “Back to the Moon” and gave participants the incredible opportunity to not only apply their teamwork, communications, and critical thinking skills, but interact with real scientists and engineers. Our very own 4th grade team earned first place in the Egg Drop Challenge! The annual outreach event seeks to expose students in grades 1-12 to solving engineering challenges in a teamwork setting and is organized by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Northern Ohio Section. Congratulations once again to our 4th grade team on their achievement as well as all BBHCSD students who participated in this one-of-a-kind STEM event!

Legendary BBH Football Coach Joe Vadini Inducted into National Hall of Fame

Our beloved alumni will be pleased to learn that legendary teacher and coach Joe Vadini, who famously led the Bees to the 1983 State Championship, was recently announced as an inductee into the National High School Football Hall of Fame at a ceremony that will take place this July. Coach Vadini was football coach at BBHHS for 25 years in a career that included the 1960s, 1970s, and culminated in his final year in the district, the historic 1983 season. This posthumous honor places Coach Vadini among an induction class into the National High School Football Hall of Fame which includes other iconic football legends such as Ozzie Newsome, Tony Dorsett, John Heisman, and Vince Young, and others. Coach Vadini passed away in 2013. The National High School Football Hall of Fame’s 4th Annual Induction Ceremony will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, in Brook Park, Ohio. Admission to the ceremony will be free, ensuring fans, families, and supporters from across the country can celebrate the honorees together.

This snapshot of positive accomplishments should make us all proud and thankful this time of year. Congratulations on the pursuit of high achievement.

Wishing you and your families a wonderful holiday season. See you in 2026.

GO BEES!

Sincerely,

Jeffrey D. Harrison
