Coffee Chat Tomorrow, Thank You Veterans, Ledger & Leader, Updates, and More.

Dear Brecksville-Broadview Heights City Schools Community,

The Thanksgiving holiday is upon us and on behalf of the entire district, we wish you all a joyous time away from school. Please remember that Thanksgiving break for students begins on Monday, November 24th and lasts through Friday, November 28th. Staff will participate in professional development Monday and Tuesday next week. Classes will resume for everyone on Monday, December 1st.

A variety of important updates are included below.

Veterans Honored Throughout the District

A special recognition is given to our Veterans, who were honored last week during several important activities that took place throughout the district. Through breakfasts, speeches, performances by our vocalists and orchestras, and hopefully through the kind gesture of inviting our service members past and present into our buildings, we intend to show how much the sacrifice of our veterans means to our school family. Thank you to those who served to protect and defend our freedoms to uphold our values.

Coffee Chat Tomorrow Morning, Thursday, November 20th

Our monthly Coffee Chats are becoming an integral part of the formal communications outreach in our district, and for those who are able to attend, please join us at the Coffee Club in Broadview Heights at 9 a.m. on Thursday, November 20th. We hope to see you there.

Our next Ledger and Leader podcast posted earlier this week, and district leaders invite you to watch. After a brief introduction regarding updates from the State in the world of public education finance, Superintendent Harrison and Treasurer Yaniglos welcome C.A.P.A. Coalition Director Kelly Lazar to speak about her role in the district and community. Be sure to tune-in, become educated on C.A.P.A.’s vital role in the community, empowered with information, and remain engaged in your district. Please check it out here!

State of the Schools Presentation Posted Online for Review

Thank you to the members of the community who attended the 2nd annual State of the Schools presentation on Tuesday, October 28th. During that discussion, an update of progress and successes early in the school year were shared with the community along with the milestones achieved during Year 1 of our Strategic Plan. Special recognitions were given to the Skuza Family and Kelly Lazar for the deep commitment they have demonstrated to the Brecksville-Broadview Heights City Schools over many years of service. This State of the Schools is the first official Key Communicators meeting of the school year, and will be followed by subsequent informal gatherings in January and April. For those unable to attend the State of the Schools presentation, you can watch a video version on our YouTube channel.

BBHHS Recognizes Quill & Scroll Inductees

BBHHS recently recognized those students who demonstrated a distinct level of capability and excellence in scholastic journalism during a special induction ceremony for the Quill & Scroll High School Journalism International Honor Society on Monday, November 17, 2025. Twenty-two new members were formally inducted into the BBHHS chapter of the prestigious honors society, joining thirteen current student members. All inductees meet the criteria of embodying the eight guiding principles of Quill & Scroll, including truth, initiative, learning, leadership, integrity, judgment, loyalty, and friendship, in addition to their journalistic talents. Congratulations to the Quill and Scroll inductees, a full list for which you can read here.

Middle School Students Serving Others in Important Ways, Preparing for Future!

BBHMS students have been hard at work serving others, engaging in creative curriculums, and preparing for their futures. Earlier this month, members of H.U.D.D.L.E., Jr. participated in our community’s health and wellness fair. Serving coffee and refreshments and even leading senior citizens in crafts were among the activities in which they engaged our community. Great job! In addition, late last month, Middle School sixth and seventh grade students took advantage of Career Readiness tool kits, on loan from CVCC. Students were able to become exposed in a snapshot activity to the crafts of building circuit boards, designing structures, experimenting with culinary arts, cosmetology, and landscape design. The students even explored anatomy through human body and muscle models. The classrooms continue to be buzzing with curiosity, creativity, and career discovery!

Stepping Stone Students Celebrate Fall

Even the youngest students in our school district got to celebrate the fall season recently, as special activities of all types have gotten underway. Such fun exercises included sorting pumpkin drawings and pasting them in order from smallest to largest on a black sheet of construction paper, and dipping their hands in finger paint and placing them on either side of a turkey drawing to give the bird its wings.

Wishing everyone in the Brecksville-Broadview Heights City Schools a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday next week. Thank you for your continued support.

GO BEES!

Sincerely,

Jeffrey D. Harrison

Superintendent
