Dear Brecksville-Broadview Heights City Schools Community,
The month of October is National Principals Month, and on behalf of everyone in our school family, please join me in thanking the awesome principals in the Brecksville-Broadview Heights City Schools. For the educational leadership and building oversight skills they bring to our school district each and every day, we are grateful. Thank you to HS Principal Kevin Jakub, and Assistant Principals Kelly Izzo and Josh Backo, MS Principal Todd Rings and Assistant Principal Kati Mann, Intermediate School Principal Robert Magyar and Associate Principal Tina McCauley, Primary School Principal Colleen Toth and Associate Principal Chris Hartland, and our Preschool Principal Lisa Mollica. You shine and your work shows. Thank you!
The district’s next coffee talk will take place on Thursday, October 16th at 9 a.m. at Panera Bread in Brecksville. The turnout from our first coffee talk was significant, more than 20 attendees, to chat about topics relevant in the schools. Come out. Enjoy a conversation. Learn more in-depth about the BBHCSD. You’ll be pleased that you did. Hope to see you there.

State of the Schools: Tuesday, October 28th at 7 p.m.
The community is invited to our 2nd annual State of the Schools presentation on Tuesday evening, October 28th at 7 p.m., which will be held in the cafeteria of BBHHS. During this presentation, which offsets the morning coffee talks for citizens, our community will learn about the state of our finances, the activity in Columbus and its impact on our local school budget, our district’s 5-Star rating on the most recent report card, and an update of the master planning process. The State of the Schools also serves as our first Key Communicators public forums, which take place the last Wednesday of the month in January at the Elementary School, and April at the Middle School, all beginning at 7 p.m. Be sure to mark your calendars and join us for the State of the Schools.

BBHHS’s Real World Wednesdays Helping Students’ Next Steps in Life
The BBHCSD has launched a new initiative directly aligned with the community’s desire for ensuring more practical life preparedness skills called Real World Wednesdays. Launched on Wednesday, October 1st, a variety of activities and events took place in the morning that exposed students to various opportunities and realities after their time as students in our district. In the HS Auditorium, seniors met representatives from the University of Akron to learn about resident life at their college, how to live in a dorm, and helpful reminders. Juniors participated in a driver’s education sequence with our SRO’s, who helped discuss the realities of distracted driving, safe motorist habits during icy roads and emergencies, and flat tire repair. Freshman and sophomores listened to a discussion on financial management, having a checking account and using credit cards in the MS Auditorium. In all, Real World Wednesdays will help equip our students for real life scenarios, in addition to the rigorous education in the classroom.

BBHMS Participates in Unified Sports Competition
BBHMS was one of seven schools from around the state to have participated in a Unified Sports Flag Football competition late last month. Unified Sports provides meaningful opportunities for both students with special needs and their student partners to interact, collaborate, and form friendships through various team sports activities. The day was filled with lots of fun and smiles and exciting gridiron action! On behalf of the BBHCSD, congratulations to our Bees Unified Sports team members for demonstrating sportsmanship, teamwork, and kindness!

Bee Your Best BEEstro Recognizes Students for Positive Behavior
Congratulations to our BBH Primary School students who were nominated and recognized as PAX Leaders of the Month last month at the Bee Your Best BEEstro, a special luncheon setup on the stage during each grade level lunch period. Featuring bee- themed tablecloths and decorations, each participating student was invited to eat lunch on the stage with the other PAX Leaders, receive a golden paper crown and were praised and joined by building and district administration. One student from each classroom is nominated by their teacher for consistently exhibiting PAX Leader choices. PAX, which is Latin for peace, is part of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) schoolwide initiative which is designed to promote positive behavior and enhance the learning environment for all students. Congratulations to our PAX Leaders of the Month!
| As the community can see, another robust update shares the successes of all that’s taking place in the BBHCSD to educate, empower, and engage our students, staff and citizens. Let’s keep making the Brecksville-Broadview Heights City Schools a destination district. | |
