Awesome SCS Educators,

Over the past few weeks, I’ve attentively listened to many of your concerns regarding PD Flex Days for the 2019-20 school year. I would like to start by saying thank you for your patience as our District leaders worked with State and local community leaders, educators and teacher associations to identify the needs and requirements necessary to equip you for a successful school year. In the spring we assured you that  we would follow up with additional details  about the required number of PD hours to be accumulated to earn Flex Days. With that said, I am happy to share the following information regarding PD hours for the 2019-20 school year:

Key areas to highlight are as follows:

  • Teachers will only need 21 hours for the first flex period in November -15 hours will be accumulated during in-service, 3 hours will be accumulated in September at the DLD day, and only 3 hours will have to be accumulated by the teacher at their own discretion

  • 64 total hours will be required of teachers during the 2019-2020 school year

  • Faculty meeting hours will count as PD. Principals will need to submit targeted faculty meeting sessions into PLZ. Once the sessions are stored in the system, teachers can sign-up and register for the sessions.

  • Hours are accumulated in the following categories:
  • District
  • Virtual
  • School/zone
  • Choice
Again, your concerns have been heard. I am sincerely receptive to your feedback and want to ensure that we continue make to progress concerning student growth and achievement. Please enjoy the remainder of your summer. I look forward to seeing you  beginning   August 5  for DLD.
