SUBJECT: Superintendent Update

Thank you so much for your support and patience in making this a great first week of school. Our first three days are in the books, and I am so proud of our students and staff. The beginning of this school year is a historical marker for Northwest ISD … our enrollment has surpassed 27,000 students – actually exceeding projections for the start of the year – and we opened our 20th elementary school, Berkshire Elementary.

I appreciate your patience and flexibility as I know we’ve had a few bumps this week. I am also grateful for the mutual respect and personal responsibility that our students, staff, and families have shown as we’ve started this year. Let me emphasize that we highly encourage all students and staff to wear a mask and to get vaccinated (if eligible). Regardless of your stance on wearing masks, thank you for being respectful of one another.

I want to thank you for giving us (your school district, schools, teachers, staff, and bus drivers) some grace as we work through these normal first of the year issues. We are diligently working on some of our systems and services, so if it hasn’t already gotten better for you and your child, it hopefully will soon!

Transportation services and our Remote Learning option have been of particular concern this week and following is an update for families impacted by those areas. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and I look forward to starting our second week of school. As always, thank you for supporting our students and schools!
