Dear Northwest Families,
Tomorrow is the first day of school, and we can’t wait to welcome your child!
Whether this is your families’ first school year or your 34th (like mine), I know there will be many kids and adults who will have a hard time falling asleep tonight – myself included. The anticipation of the new year is exciting and can even be a little daunting. Remember the enthusiasm and positivity you convey to your child is a powerful tool.
Your Northwest ISD teachers and staff are prepared to make this the best school year yet! We are here for you and your kids and are truly excited to partner with you on your child’s educational journey.
As the fastest-growing school district in North Texas, many new students will join the Northwest ISD family when we open our doors tomorrow. Our student enrollment will continue to increase, and we expect to eclipse 30,000 students this school year. Please remember to reach out and give our new families and students a warm welcome!
Also, please note that our staff, children, neighbors, and friends will be getting back into school year routines. Remind kids to look before crossing the street. Please also be patient with us – some lunch lines, parking lot lines, and transportation routes may take longer during the first few weeks of school, but these routines will become smoother and faster as the school year continues.
Bill Russell, a star basketball player with the Boston Celtics for 11 championships (the longest winning streak in U.S. professional sports history) and the first African-American head coach in the NBA, passed away this summer. He was renowned for nurturing up-and-coming players and believed in the saying, “We work to become, not to acquire.”
As Russell often shared, “Every day’s a learning day.” We can’t wait to get started on this learning journey with you as we work to become empowered learners and leaders. On behalf of the Northwest ISD teachers, staff, and School Board, welcome to the 2022-2023 school year!
Here’s to a great first day!
David Hicks, Ed.D.
