Dual Language Program for Incoming Kindergarteners
Interested in having your kindergartener learn Spanish? Consider the New Caney ISD Dual Language Program. Students learn in both English and Spanish from Kindergarten through fifth grade. Through dual language education, New Caney ISD is equipping students with the tools to become bilingual, biliterate, and have a better understanding and appreciation for other cultures. We are investing not only in the future of our students, but also in the future of our community. New Caney ISD has been a pioneer of the Two-Way Dual Language Program for over a decade. Our Two-Way Dual Language Program is an enrichment program in which all the content areas (Math, Science, Reading, and Social Studies) are taught in both English and Spanish. Through this program, students have access to a wide variety of experiences to help them develop the Spanish Language in an authentic way! If you are an interested parent of an incoming kindergarten student, please fill out the Parent Interest Survey for Dual Language Education .
Summer Enrichment Program for K-5th Graders
NCISD is excited to share a new summer enrichment Canvas course for all incoming kindergarten through fifth grade elementary students who want to keep their learning skills sharp over the summer. The summer enrichment courses are designed to provide students with opportunities to continue practicing their skills through fun and meaningful activities in order to better prepare them for success in school this fall. Each Canvas grade level enrichment course will have 4 two-week modules posted throughout the summer that will offer students choice for relevant math and reading activities they may complete. The first module will last from June 8-19 and the activities will be related to the theme of “Outdoor Adventures.” The math and reading skills focused on in this module are skills that students moving up to the next grade level typically need more practice with. These activities are also offered in both English and Spanish. There will be no graded assignments involved, only a reflection question at the end of each module. Virtual support will be also provided for students who request help through Canvas. Students simply select the math and reading activities they want to complete in their upcoming grade level Canvas course and have fun continuing their learning. As students finish the activities and reflection questions, their participation will be recorded in Canvas. To encourage student participation, a drawing will be held at the end of the summer for a limited amount of fun prizes that will be given away in every grade level. Students simply participate in the summer enrichment courses for their name to be entered into the drawing.
