Message from Superintendent Kenn Franklin
Dear New Caney ISD Community,

We are at the end of the 2019-20 school year as today marks the last day of instruction for New Caney ISD schools. It has been a most interesting school year to say the least, full of challenges for our students, our staff, and our community. We are looking forward to celebrating the graduation of approximately 1,000 students from our three high schools in just a couple of weeks. These students, and their families, should be commended for their perseverance through a series of community, state, and now worldwide challenges during their time in high school. While these challenges are inconvenient at best and dangerous, even tragic, for many people, they also serve as experiences that will strengthen the Class of 2020 as it faces the real world. And while it seems difficult now, the real world is also a wonderful place in which this group of students will find peace, success, and happiness.

Along with the Board of Trustees, I would like to again thank our teachers and staff for the incredible work these last few months and for their commitment to our students. We will rely on your expertise and innovative spirit as we plan for what comes next. To our families and our students, we will continue to communicate with you during the summer as plans develop for the 2020-21 school year. Be safe, and have a great summer!

Sincerely,
Kenn Franklin

NCISD Elementary, Secondary Teachers of the Year
Texas Teacher of the Year is the highest honor that the State of Texas can bestow upon a teacher. Two NCISD teachers will now participate in the regional round of the Texas State Teacher of the Year Program for 2021. This week, Kelly Smoot of Oakley Elementary School was named NCISD Elementary Teacher of the Year, and Hanna Hollohazy of Infinity Early College High School was named NCISD Secondary Teacher of the Year. Smoot, a second-grade teacher, has been with New Caney ISD for five years. Hollohazy, an English teacher, has been with the district for nine years.

Each official district Elementary and Secondary Teacher of the Year in Texas is eligible to advance to the regional and state levels. The regional selection process is conducted in June-July by the 20 Texas Regional Education Service Centers; each names a Regional Elementary and Secondary Teacher of the Year. The 40 Regional Teachers of the Year are considered for Texas Teacher of the Year in a selection process facilitated by Texas Association of School Administrators. When selecting the Texas Elementary and Texas Secondary Teachers of the Year, the judges designate one to serve as the official “Texas Teacher of the Year” — Texas’ nominee for National Teacher of the Year, a program conducted by the Council of Chief State School Officers. In January, a selection committee representing the major national education associations selects four finalists for National Teacher of the Year from the nominees submitted by the 50 states.
