Update from Superintendent Kenn Franklin
Dear New Caney ISD Community,

It surely doesn’t feel traditional, but next week is spring break for New Caney ISD. We will observe this break in the school calendar with respect to instruction. Our students and staff have been working hard, not just over the past few weeks, but throughout the school year. While perhaps not what you were planning for spring break, I hope that you and your family can find some diversion and relief from the current circumstances.

We will resume the distance learning plan and instructional calendar after the break. The district’s meal service plan will continue as currently scheduled during spring break. Also, the Montgomery County Food Bank distributes food bags for families Thursdays at the same time and locations.

Finally, by staying apart for the time being, New Caney ISD is working to ensure that we are limiting the spread of COVID-19 in our community. In service of this, I want to share a one-minute video that reminds us of the most important actions we can take as individuals to reduce risk for ourselves and others: practice social distancing, wash your hands, and stay home as much as you can, especially if you have a cough, fever, or shortness of breath. I encourage you to watch this video with your family. And be sure to share it with family and friends on social media and via email. Even though we are currently apart, we look forward to coming back together as a community soon.

Sincerely,
Kenn Franklin

The 2020 United States Census is Happening Now
The U.S Census is currently underway. The deadline to respond online, by mail or phone has been extended until Aug. 14. The census provides critical data that lawmakers, business owners, teachers, and many others use to provide daily services, products, and support for you and your community. Every year, billions of dollars in federal funding go to hospitals, fire departments, schools, roads, and other resources based on census data.

The results of the census also determine the number of seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives, and they are used to draw congressional and state legislative districts.

It's also in the Constitution: Article 1, Section 2, mandates that the country conduct a count of its population once every 10 years. The 2020 Census will mark the 24th time that the country has counted its population since 1790.
