Greetings to FHUSD Parents, Guardians and Friends,
On October 24th, FHUSD hosted the current class of the Fountain Hills Leadership Academy where class members were introduced to the variety of school district programs. The Fountain Hills Leadership Academy is sponsored by the town Cultural and Civic Association with the goal of promoting emerging town leaders to impact positive change in Fountain Hills. The class is led this year by Jerrod Stearnes and Margot Sorensen.
The day began with breakfast provided by the school district food services staff followed by brief presentations from myself and FHUSD Governing Board President Jill Reed. Since not all class members have a common understanding of Arizona public education, we discussed school academics and achievement measures, extracurricular clubs and athletics, community support, and the governance structure of the district. Presenters from Golden Eagle Education Foundation and East Valley Institute of Technology then shared aspects of their organizations and their relationships with the school district. The class members then went on tours of all three FHUSD schools led by each site principal. Returning to the district for lunch, they were joined by FH high school students who shared their unique perspectives on their school experiences. The Leadership Academy class members now have the task to develop a concluding project that has potential benefits for the local community and present this at their graduation ceremony in November.
FHUSD is grateful for the opportunity to engage with the Leadership Academy along with other civic organizations. These opportunities continue to strengthen the relationship between FHUSD and the town and reinforces the mutual benefits of having a vibrant school district that has a positive impact on the local community.
