Dear FHUSD Parents, Guardians and Friends,
As we are well into the second full week of district-wide online and remote learning and instruction, I would like to update everyone on what has been accomplished to date. Despite our email boxes overflowing with a relentless stream of new messages, maintaining communication and ensuring connectivity with the school community is still paramount.
We are continuing our free breakfast/lunch daily distribution from 9:30-11:00 at both McDowell Mountain Elementary and at the H’man ‘shawa Early Childhood Development Center on Ft. McDowell. We plan to continue that throughout the remainder of the school year calendar to May 21st. However, please note this service will not be available this coming Friday, April 10th.
To date almost 100% of FHUSD families have either responded about their online access to instructional resources through the survey or have been called directly by a district employee to inquire about their internet access. However, if you know of an FHUSD family who has not been contacted by the schools, please email me at
so I can connect them with a school representative. We have also continued distribution of chromebooks over the past few days to families who needed more than one device. The child’s teacher is the best contact if additional equipment is still needed. Teachers are communicating directly to their students through the primary platforms of Seesaw and Google classroom for learning opportunities, sharing of lessons, videos, and tutorials. These methods will continue as the essential way to engage with students at home so having a readily available computer or chromebook is essential.
Principals will send out their own Falcon Focus at the end of this week and report on how the learning process is progressing, grading practices, and other school specific information so please watch for their message.
Thank you for working with the schools during this time and I hope everyone is staying healthy.
Robert Allen, Ed.D.
