District Leadership Updates
Good Afternoon to our ALSD Community,

I wanted to update you on some important leadership transitions happening in the upcoming 2022-2023 school year.

Principal Guadalupe “Lupe” Berzunza has made the decision to pursue other opportunities and has resigned from her position as principal of Stork Elementary effective at the end of this school year. It is with great appreciation that we wish her all the best in her new endeavors!

The fabulous administrative team of Principal Val Bires and Teaching Assistant Principal Kristin Bowyer will be moving together to serve our Stork Elementary community during the 2022-2023 school year. They are excited to embrace the community and support the continued growth of our students and staff.

Alta Loma Junior High Principal Michele Rachielles will be moving to Hermosa Elementary School to serve as their principal. Teaching Assistant Principal Kaitlyn Trotter is excited to join Principal Rachielles and the whole Husky community. We are excited to see this dynamic team in action.

Our Human Resources Office will begin a robust recruitment process for the Alta Loma Junior High principalship to ensure a smooth transition as we continue to prioritize focusing on the needs of students, staff and families.

We are incredibly fortunate to have amazing staff within our District. Though I know that change can bring about many emotions, please be assured that our collective focus is on a strong start for the 2022-2023 school year with excellent leadership teams in place at each of our schools!

In addition, our Board of Trustees has selected a search firm to conduct the recruiting process for your next ALSD superintendent. Look for updates from Board President Brad Buller in the near future.

Finally, as you'll see in Carnelian's update below, incoming Principal Mrs. Autumn Williams began today! I was able to catch Mrs. Williams with our outgoing Interim Principal Mrs. Sue Geddes at the site today, and the fun was surely already evident! My sincere appreciation goes out to the Carnelian Cardinal community for their positive spirit and support during the transitions there this year.

Great Things Happening At Our Schools
From Principal Andrew Carter:
We had an amazing week back on campus after a week off for spring break. Our Eagles came in focused, prepared, and excited to return to Deer Canyon!

We kicked off the week with our Step it Up! Fundraiser and our families answered the call. We are so incredibly lucky and proud to have a school where the parents and families participate in all our PTA fundraisers and support us with a positive passion!

We love our families! #EaglePRIDE Let’s keep SOARin’ together, for all our Eagles.
From Principal Curtis Quanstrom:
The Special Education Team at Jasper Elementary goes above and beyond daily to ensure that all students receive individualized education and support.
Patricia Oleas has been recognized by the California Autism Professional Training And Information Network, CAPTAIN, for implementing evidence-based practices for individuals affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder. Day in and day out you can see the practices, strategies, and support Ms. Oleas gives to her students.

Congratulations to Ms. Oleas for receiving this well deserved recognition.
From Principal Val Bires:
This week our sixth graders enjoyed going to Camp Pali for three days of outdoor education, learning and fun! Not only did our students gain leadership skills, they used teamwork to face their fears in their camp activities. Some of the enriching activities they enjoyed were squid dissection, archery, camp survival skills, teamwork games, hiking, s'mores making, high ropes and more!

The experiences and friendships that our students gained will be remembered for a lifetime! Camp Pali is nestled in the beautiful mountains of Southern California in Running Springs. Pali has been around since 2003 and has outstanding instructors, yummy food and meaningful enrichment. Our sixth graders loved camp!
From Principal Guadalupe Berzunza:
Stork Superstars have adjusted well to being back on campus and have resumed their quest for being the best students they can be. As the school’s principal, it gives me great joy to celebrate our Superstars and share these special moments with our students, teachers, parents and community members.

At our last honor roll assembly, students were honored for their hard work and dedication. Our students take pride in their work and look forward to sharing their success with their families. I have no doubt that our Superstars will continue to grow academically and do great things!

From Principal Kristy Johnson:
This week we welcomed back students from a week off and kicked off the return to school with PBIS Assemblies. We spent time reviewing our recess rules and expectations.

Our primary grades enjoyed a week of Recess Rodeo. Our 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders all rotated through stations to learn some new recess games and review current games.
From Principal Michele Rachielles:
The Associated Student Body students are Warrior leaders. Next year’s prospective ASB students have been participating in interviews this week. Students prepared presentations to show off their advertising skills, broadcast abilities, dance planning prowess, or their activity planning expertise. Interviews consisted of a short presentation and a series of questions.

All candidates did exceptionally well. Our future of ASB is bright, energetic, and inspiring.
From Principal Sandy Rose:
We have had lots to celebrate at Vineyard in the last couple of weeks! Several students earned a Scholar Athlete Award for academic achievement and being a stellar athlete in PE. Students who did well academically and exhibited positive citizenship for the second trimester were able to participate in our fun-filled Renaissance Rally hosted by our ASB Leadership class.

In addition, we had the privilege of honoring students who received Principal’s Honor Roll by earning a 4.0 grade point average (GPA) and those who exhibited diligent effort in PE and earned a Purple Reign Award for the 2nd trimester. We are incredibly proud of our students’ amazing accomplishments! #OurVikingsRock!
From Principal Dolly Bentley:
This week, Alta Loma Elementary would like to highlight our ALE Yearbook Club! They have been busy snapping pictures around campus so that we have plenty of fun activities and students represented in the 2021-22 yearbook.

A huge thank you to Ms. Pingrey and Mrs. Sclafani for their hard work on the yearbook and for their time and dedication to our students and ALE!
From Principal Khaleelah Lewis-Wilkins:
Banyan Elementary celebrates Women's History Month!

Women’s History Month is a celebration of women’s contributions to history, culture and society and has been observed annually in March since 1987. This month, students at Banyan celebrated the contributions of women past and present.

Teachers provided activities and lessons that focused on the many achievements and accomplishments that women have made throughout history. With the help of Mrs. Carlson-Montemayor, Student Senate Advisor, our Student Senate representatives chose important historical female figures like- Jane Goodall, Vera Wang, Marie Curie, Sacagawea and presented a short biography, along with wearing attire that represented the woman of their choice during our Bulldog Assembly. Mrs. Rhines, 1st grade teacher, created an engaging poster board that highlighted notable women for students in our pavilion.

Banyan would like to add a special “thank you”, and recognition to the many contributions of the woman that impact our site and student lives through their ongoing persistence to make sure that ALL students succeed! Thank you to our phenomenal — staff, mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, neighbors, community partners, and friends. Thank you for all you do to make this world a better place for students! #GoBulldogs! #BulldogStrong
From Interim Principal Sue Geddes and Principal Autumn Williams:
Carnelian is excited to have their new Principal, Autumn Williams, begin on April 1st. We are preparing her name for the office door and are ready to welcome her to the Cardinal family.

We had another Gold Star Lunch to honor our Cardinals for exceptional writing this month. We are proud of their fine work and enjoy hosting them for a pizza lunch!
