SUBJECT: Schools Closed Additional Week - Tuesday, March 19, 2020
The number one question coming from most NISD families and staff members is the possibility of extending the current closure of our schools. Texas Governor Greg Abbott answered that question today. He has declared a public health emergency, closing all Texas schools through at least Friday, April 3. With the governor’s decision, our schools will remain closed an additional week beyond our announced two-week closure. That will now put NISD’s reopening on Monday, April 6, 2020.
As we discussed last night in our Facebook Live conversation, our school district has already been planning for this possibility, so know that we are working on educational plans for this situation as I have discussed in my previous letters to you. I will continue to share updates with you during this situation as I’ve been doing, so expect to hear more from me regarding our plans beyond next week. If you would like to watch the information from yesterday’s Facebook Live,
Governor Abbott has said he will keep school districts updated as more information regarding the COVID-19 pandemic is available, and we remain in contact with health agencies that are also providing guidance.
