Hear Me Out Explores Energy Center's Future

Hear Me Out will feature an interview with Superior Mayor Jim Paine on Friday, July 6 at 10 a.m. Mayor Paine will talk about his response to a Minnesota judge's recommendation last Monday that regulators deny approval of the proposed Nemadji Trail Energy Center (pictured).

The $700 million proposed natural gas power plant is a joint project of Minnesota Power and Dairyland Power Cooperative. Administrative Law Judge Jeanne Cochran wrote in her opinion that Minnesota Power failed to establish a need for the plant, which would be built on land between the Nemadji River and Enbridge Energy's Superior Terminal.

Tune in on Friday, July 6, at 10 a.m. on The Ideas Network stations 91.3 Superior and 90.9 Ashland. Friday's show will also include a conversation about the 2018 berry growing season on the Bayfield peninsula.
Wisconsin Life Features Madeline Island Music
Norman Gilliland

Wisconsin Life will present a sound essay on Madeline Island Chamber Music Friday, July 20 on the NPR News & Classical Music Network. The essay, produced by The Midday Host Norman Gilliland (pictured), explores the summer music camp that allows students aged 14 to 25 to learn from distinguished faculty from music schools throughout the country as well as professional string quartets and woodwind quintets. Gilliland and a WPR recording engineer spent time on the island last month absorbing the music and the mood of the island.

The segment will be broadcast during Morning Edition on 88.9 in Brule, 104.7 in Washburn and 88.5 in Superior. Be sure to tune in at 6:45 and 8:45 a.m., or tune in any time online at wisconsinlife.org.

WPR Is Always On At Karlyn's Gallery

As you drive down the main street of Washburn, it is pretty hard to miss Karlyn's Gallery. The store has been a fixture in Washburn for fifty years, offering watercolor paintings, classes, pottery and framing all under one roof.
"WPR has been my radio companion for years, and becoming a business sponsor just made sense," said Karlyn Holman (pictured). "The entire staff plays The Midday quiz every day. So many of our customers come in and mention hearing our sponsorship on WPR. Becoming a sponsor has not only benefited our business, but also greatly increased our connection with our community. We are proud to support WPR!"
