Head of School

Hello BASIS Mesa families,

Happy February and end of Trimester 2! This school year has flown by with so much progress and success taking place all around our campus and community. Another big thank you to all who completed the Mid-Year Parent Survey. The feedback we receive in this survey is valuable for us to assess the processes in place and make any necessary adjustments toward an even better second half of the school year.

A special congratulations to the Class of 2023! Next week we celebrate their last week on campus with Senior Week.

This year’s group of 12th grade students are not only exceptional students, but A+ role models for their peers and our younger Supernovas. Their daily presence on campus will be missed, but they leave behind great memories and traditions to be renewed by future classes.

It’s never too early to begin thinking about next school year. With that in mind, we invite you to join our academic teams for Rising Nights at the end of the month. These presentations provide valuable insights of the curriculum you can expect for your students as the move on to the next grade level. More details- including grades, dates and times- are included below. In addition, re-enrollment for the 2024-2025 is planned to begin next month with more details to come via ParentSquare.

I am always grateful for the community we have at BASIS Mesa and know I speak for our full staff when I share my thanks for your continued support. It’s been a great year and we are well on our way to more success to come.

Thank you, Supernovas!

ATF Helps Us Retain The Best

Thank You!  to all of our BASIS Mesa families who have given so generously to ATF this school year. As we begin to enter the hiring season for the ’24-’25 school year, the Annual Teacher Fund (ATF) is an important component to our competitive advantage in hiring teachers. In the realm of attracting, hiring and retaining the best teachers, we are fortunate to have resources, through ATF, specifically positioned to help us retain the best and brightest year over year. Teachers who perform at an exceptional level and return to BASIS each fall are the sole beneficiaries of our ATF distribution.

The unique funding mechanism for ATF (direct giving by families) is a positive reminder to our faculty of just how much our BASIS Mesa families support them and want to keep them here. The relative health of this resource is entirely dependent on our own fundraising efforts here in Mesa and the response in event donations and recurring commitments from our BASIS Mesa families.

As we look ahead to finish out the school year, we ask you to continue to boost our ATF resources by supporting our upcoming Spring Week of Giving, any Booster sponsored events and/or giving directly to BASIS Mesa, designating ATF.

Andrena Meeks

Director of Primary Programs

We are excited to host our upcoming Spring Parent-Teacher conferences scheduled for Wednesday, February 7th, and Friday, February 9th, focusing on Kindergarten through 3rd-grade students. On both days, students in grades K-3 will be dismissed at 11:45 am. Lunches for Kindergarten through 3rd grade will not be served that day.

Taking into account the valuable parent feedback we received during the fall conferences, we have carefully considered the suggestions and have made adjustments to enhance the conference experience. Considering this, we have dedicated this focused time for both Learning Expert Teachers (LETs) and Subject Expert Teachers (SETs) to be available for in-depth discussions on student progress.

This strategic allocation of time aims to provide parents with an opportunity for more comprehensive and focused discussions during the conferences, all while minimizing disruptions to regular learning activities. We believe this approach will allow for a more meaningful exchange of information between parents and teachers.

For specific details and to schedule your conference time, please refer to the messages from your Learning Expert Teacher (LET). We appreciate your ongoing collaboration in ensuring the success and development of our students. Thank you for your understanding and participation in this important initiative.

In looking ahead, Rising Nights are just around the corner. Rising Nights are a great time for families to gain insights into the expectations and essential skills needed for the next grade level. 1st through 3rd grade Rising Night will take place on February 26th at 5:30pm. 4th through 5TH grade Rising Nights will take place on February 27th at 5:30 pm. The evening will be a brief presentation in the MPR followed by opportunities to ask questions.

Have a wonderful February. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Hey Supernovas!

Congratulations to Mr. Swantko and our fantastic Model UN team here at BASIS Mesa for hosting Model UN students from BASIS Chandler, BASIS Scottsdale, and BASIS Peoria for an inter-BASIS Model UN competition! It's always exciting to see our Supernovas go toe-to-toe with other BASIS campuses and show off what makes our school such a special place to be!

Speaking of congratulations being in order, I would be remiss to not mention our tremendous class of 2024 as they prepare to finish their time on campus here at BASIS Mesa and move on to Senior Projects and preparing for graduation. It is absolutely mind-boggling to think that the little 5th graders from my first year here at this campus are now outgoing seniors! We are blessed to have a wonderful group of seniors this year, and while their presence here on campus will be sorely missed, I'm sure I speak for everyone at the school when I say I am so excited for them to get out into the world and do amazing things!

Have a fantastic week and a wonderful month of February, everyone!

Director of Academic Programs

Hello Supernovas!

We are wrapping up Trimester 2, the last day being February 9th. While this starts the home stretch for most of our students, it is also when we say good bye to our seniors on campus. The advantage that we get being a k-12 school is seeing these kids grow up to in to young adults. We’ve had most of the graduating class with us since 4th grade, and in one short week they will be off to start their first chapter into adulthood. As one of their former teachers, I’m extremely proud of this group and what they have become. Seniors, I wish you all the best in your journey, whether that is working on a senior project, getting your first job, travelling and visiting your future campus, or using this time to rest and let it all sink in. Congratulations! We are all so proud of each one of you.

Speaking of the end of the trimester, Report Cards will be sent out via ParentSquare on February 15th. Please reach out to me if you have any trouble receiving these, as that is the only way that we release these secure documents. For any content related questions, I always recommend reaching out to the teacher directly as they will be able to give you the best insight on the class and what’s to come.

Mock AP Exams are scheduled for the week of February 20th. Teachers have shared their specific exam date with students in class and all dates have been posted to ParentSquare as well. As a general reminder, Mock AP Exams are required of all AP students, regardless of exam intent. AP Exam recommendations will be provided by teachers to their students following Mocks.

We are finalizing plans for our annual Rising Night presentations at the school February 26th through the 29th. Come out and hear from some our teachers and staff about what you can expect for the next school year. Course selection for the 2024-2025 school year for grades 6-11 will be conducted in March. Look out for more detail to come through ParentSquare.

Director of Student Affairs

Hello Supernovas,

We had a super busy and productive month of January and look forward to what February has in store! Thank you, families, for your support in making the Winter Formal another wonderful and memorable evening for our students. Your donations, time and effort decorating, helping cleanup was nothing short of outstanding, and our students can attest. A pat on the back is in order as well for all of our middle school students on completing their Pre-Comprehensive exams!

A few things for the month of February; Trimester 2 concludes on Friday, February 9th, be sure to encourage your student to turn in any missing work and finish the Trimester on a positive note as we transition into Trimester 3 shortly. More information will follow via ParentSquare as our Trimester 2 award ceremony will be held on February 23rd.

Have a great February!

Another month passes with more fun and memories created by our Student Ambassadors! Winter Formal was a "snowy" night to remember and our Senior Ambassadors put on another engaging pep assembly around our character trait for the month of January- responsibility! While our seniors' daily time on campus may be coming to an end, their presence will still be seen and felt as they continue to return and build traditions for our Supernovas!
