Hello BASIS Mesa families,

Thank you to all who were able to attend our Rising Nights this week! These events are very helpful for our families to gather a better understanding of the progression of our academic program. The presentations of each event have been posted to ParentSquare for the associated grade levels for additional reference.

This week brings fun and engagement with one of our favorite campus traditions- Spring Picnics. Our picnics are a great opportunity to join your student and their friends for lunch in our courtyard. We hope to see you there!

And finally, Spring Break is almost here beginning March 11! I hope all of our Supernovas enjoy a well-deserved and fun-filled week away. We look forward to seeing everyone back on-campus on Monday March 18.

Thank you, Supernovas!

Simple Reminders For Getting Your Students to Class Safely and On Time

Please partner with us in continuing to improve the timeliness and efficiency of student arrival to campus each morning. Busy mornings coming to BASIS Mesa can be made smoother by incorporating these simple actions:

AM Arrival and Drop Off

·       Have your students(s) unbuckled and ready to exit your car before the staff member opens the car door

·       Safety First. Please DO NOT allow your student(s) to exit your vehicle until a staff member opens the car door (Primary, North Curb)

·       Have backpacks and lunches closed and in-hand or already on your student prior to the staff member opening the car door

·       Have your car set up so that your student(s) exit on the curb side of your vehicle

·       Please refrain from texting or reading on your phone while in the drop off line

·       Save questions for staff members attending the curb for a phone call or email

·       Please DO NOT park on Eastmark Parkway north of the North Entrance to the school (by the sand volleyball courts). Pedestrian activity combined with high traffic flow at this critical entry/exit point creates a serious safety concern and causes unnecessary and excessive delays in our car line exit.

·       First-come, first-serve park/walk is available only along the mid-section curb, between our two entrances, immediately south of the North Entrance.

·       For traffic flow safety reasons, the front office driveway is closed to standard drop off from 7:00 AM – 7:45 AM. Vehicles with students arriving late to an earlier dismissal will be allowed in during this time by checking in with the staff member attending the driveway.  Parents with a scheduled meeting, delivering items for a class, or other special circumstance may also gain entry in the same way.

Entry Point Closing Times

Per standard BASIS policy, all students should be inside the building 5 minutes prior to the time class starts. This 5-minute timeframe coordinates with the closing times for our entry points, as students need that amount of time, at a minimum, to be on time for class.

If you are running late and know your student will not make it to the entry point on time, please do not proceed to the entry point. Instead, go directly to the front office where you will be required to sign them in and they will receive a late pass to get to class.

·       Our entry points close promptly at the times specified. Plan to be on school property with your vehicle no later than the arrival times indicated below in order to allow your student time to unload and walk into the building.

·       Zero hour students in grades 8-12 who arrive late may not enter through the typical drop off entry point, they must enter through the front office to be signed in and receive a pass to class.

Thank you for your attention and effort on this as we are now well into the second half of the year. As always, our first concern is for the safety of our students and we will continue to approach our operational procedures with that in mind. We appreciate your help and continued support!

Director of Primary Programs

Dear BASIS Mesa Parents,

I am sincerely grateful to all those who attended the Rising Nights event this last week. As we enter the final week before the break, we are pleased to announce a series of captivating events. The Read-A-Thon is currently in full swing, and we appreciate all those actively participating.

We are excited to present the Love to Read Spirit Week scheduled for next week. The culmination of this spirited week will be the Cozy up Primary Picnic on Friday, March 8th. We anticipate your presence at this delightful event and hope to see you all there.

Thank you for your continued support and participation.

Hello Supernovas!

Believe it or not, we are rapidly approaching yearbook ordering season! Due to the fact that we are a full K-12 school, we publish two separate yearbooks each year, and ordering can be confusing as a result. If your student is in grades K-3, you will want to order our primary school yearbook, which is ordered through a company called Treering. If your student is in grades 4-12, you will order our middle/upper school yearbook, which is ordered through Jostens. When the time comes to order yearbooks, it is important to ensure that you order the correct one for your student's grade, as it is not always possible to obtain a refund from the publishing company in the event that the wrong yearbook is ordered. If you have additional questions about yearbooks, you can reach out to me at any time, and I can happily route your inquiry to the proper person.

Term projects are on the horizon as well, albeit a bit farther out. However, since term projects can fill very quickly, it's worthwhile to make sure you have a solid grasp on how to log in to your Blackbaud account, as well as knowing how to purchase optional items in Blackbaud, as this is how term project sign-up takes place. If you've signed your student up for a club, it is an identical process, so you should already be all set. However, if your student has not participated in a club this year and you haven't used Blackbaud much, keep an eye out for instructions as we get closer to registration, as it's never fun to miss out on a desired term project due to it filling up while you're having a technical issue with Blackbaud.

As always, if you have any questions about Blackbaud (or anything, really, I can always point you in the right direction if it's not something I can directly help with), you can reach out to me at any time. Have a great Spring Break and a wonderful March, everyone!

Thank you to all the families who joined us for our Rising Nights presentations. Copies of the presentations have been posted to ParentSquare. Elective Course Catalogs for each grade level are posted to allow the opportunity for families to review prior to the course selection process. Rising 12th grade course selection will take place later in the school year.

Course selection for the 2024-2025 school year will be conducted through rising grade level-specific Microsoft Forms surveys. Students moving into grades 6-11 can select their electives and core courses dependent on grade level. The course selection Forms links will be shared via ParentSquare on Monday March 4 and will be set to close on Friday March 8 at 11:59 pm. More information will be detailed in the ParentSquare post and Forms surveys themselves.

Coming back from Spring Break will begin the testing season! More information will be shared via ParentSquare as we get closer, but please note these dates below as most are required of all students in the listed grade levels.

Hello Supernovas,

We are cruising towards the finish line for this academic year, as we are now a couple weeks into our final Trimester.

Thank you parents/guardians and family members who attended our Trimester 2 Award Ceremonies, as we gave recognition to our outstanding scholars here on campus! We love to see the courtyard packed with support.

As we look forward to the month of March with Spring Break on the horizon, please be sure to check your ParentSquare to stay in the loop of upcoming events, such as our Read-a-thon Spirit Week, Spring Family Picnic here on campus, and Staff vs. Student basketball game to quickly name a few. We hope to see you there!

Continue to be on the lookout for our biweekly progress reports being sent home with your student(s) as well as ISR’s to keep you up to date with their progress.

Have a marvelous March everyone!

Student Spotlight

Allison Hong is an outstanding junior with remarkable talents. She is an exceptionally talented dancer who started competing in various forms of dance at a young age, including modern dance and ballet. Recently, she competed in the Semifinals at the prestigious 25th International Ballet Competition-Youth America Grand Prix, in Phoenix as well as in San Diego. At both events, she mesmerized the audience and judges with a technically demanding solo from Don Quixote, Act 1. She also performed in the Semifinals of group dances.

Apart from dance, Allison is also a very skilled figure skater and swimmer. She represented BASIS Mesa in the Canyon Athletic Association swim season and won several medals throughout the season. She qualified for the State Finals and achieved a top 10 ranking in all the events she competed in, including freestyle, breaststroke, and butterfly.

She recently received a nomination for the title of AZ Central Student of Week hosted by The Arizona Republic, part of the USA Today Network.

Way to represent the Supernovas, Allison! We are incredibly proud of you!
