SUPERVISOR'S MESSAGE
In addition to flowers and showers (and hail), signs of spring at the Township include more food drives, the annual Township Day of Action in Springfield, the Paper Shred Event, the Budget Ordinance Meeting, and a spotlight on mental health.
I am pleased to report that the Trustees approved our FY24 General Fund and General Assistance Fund budget at the noticed Budget Meeting on Tuesday, which will be posted on our website in the budget section. Based on last year’s experience, we are budgeting to increase services and cut costs while giving staff well-deserved raises. In addition, we officially started our decennial review process with the appointment of our highly qualified Committee. Over the next 18 months, the committee will analyze our statutes, programs, policy, resolutions, and agreements to determine areas for additional efficiency.
Last weekend, we met our goal of recycling close to 10,000 lbs of paper during our Spring Paper Shred Event hosted by Regina Dominican High School. Thanks to all who helped, including agency-partner The Volunteer Center of NE Illinois. If you are looking for ways to get involved, their website and our citizen advisory committees are places to investigate this spring.
May has been designated as mental health awareness month and our agency partners have been increasing visibility about various topics and their services. In today’s issue, we spotlight the local mental health resources of agencies with whom the Township partners to help meet the needs of our community. Explore their websites, events on our calendar, or by making a first phone call. If, for any reason, you find yourself unsure about a first step, our Director of General Assistance and Social Services Jeanne Winsted Rosser would be pleased to help make the connection. She may be reached at the Township at 847-446-8201 or email jwinstedrosser@newtriertownship.com.
Finally, a hearty congratulations and good luck to those of you who are part of the graduation from our four Township high schools! While these graduates may now be adults in the eyes of the law (and perhaps their own), parents should prepare for emergencies by obtaining healthcare power of attorney. Our agency partner provides a comprehensive talk on our You Tube channel here explaining its importance and completing the paperwork. And Save the Date: North Suburban Legal Aid attorneys will once again offer a clinic to complete the form on August 3rd from 3:30-6:30PM at the Township. Registration for this donation-based event will be forthcoming.
As always, if you have ideas or questions, feel free to contact me or join us for an event or meeting.
Best,
Gail Schnitzer Eisenberg
Township Supervisor
