A Wedding on Sunday?
Brummitt & Elledge say "I do"
The sacramental sign of marriage is the joining of hands, an ancient custom practiced by the Jews, the Greeks and the Romans. For centuries, the joining of hands, and the giving and receiving of rings and the spoken marriage vows were symbols intended to occur during the regular gathering of the community in Sunday worship - most especially within the context of Holy Eucharist.

By the mid-twentieth century in this country, this custom of "Sunday Weddings" had been replaced by the more commercial enterprise of the "wedding industry." Holy Matrimony enacted anywhere and in any place is valid, but this Sunday morning we enthusiastically celebrate the union of David Foran Brummitt and Cindy Karen Elledge as we gather as their village family. All are most welcome to join David and Cindy after the 10:00 a.m. service for a celebratory reception.

Sunday Supper
October 21 - 5:00 p.m.
Good food, good company, good for the soul
You're all invited to the next Sunday Supper! Our very first "supper" in September was a grand success with over 50 people in attendance. We hope you'll plan to join in this month's get-together.  We meet in Hinde Hall at 5:00 p.m. for a delicious meal that is sure to appeal to all ages. We will share the Word and prayers around the table and have communion as part of our time together.  Let us know you're coming... click on the event and register there.

Stewardship Campaign
Our annual giving season continues and will culminate in a festive Ingathering Celebration on Sunday, November 18 at both services with mimosas and a bagel bar at 9:00 a.m. Have you pledged yet? We hope that every parishioner prayerfully considers participating at some level.

Pledging allows the vestry and staff to anticipate the annual income for 2019 and budget accordingly enabling us to RSVP to the generous GOD whom we worship and serve.  If you have not already received a pledge card, they are available in the parish office, at the entry to the church and the Welcome Tent. Online pledging is also an easy option, simply click the "Count Me In!" button belowThank you to the sixty-two families who have committed $245,680 towards the operating expenses in 2019.

Money, Money, Money - as a Spiritual Practice  - I t's hard to calculate the importance of money in our lives, the amount of stress it gives us, the ignorance we sometimes feel about it, the untold good it has done in our own or other's lives. Jesus frequently talks about money in the gospels, so we will too as we continue our journey as the Episcopal branch of the Jesus Movement.
  • October 28 - Praying with Beads - A proven prayer practice which we will explore in this session of The Way of Love.

Fall Back
November 4
Don't forget to turn your clocks back when you go to bed Saturday night, November 3. We know you love coming to church, but if you don't turn the clocks back you'll be an hour early. It's also a good idea to check the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Dia de los Muertos
November 4, 2019
Click the photo for an animated Dia de los Muertos video.
Christ Church will be honoring
Dia de los Muertos as part of our All Saints Day celebration this year. Celebrating this holiday enriches the body of the church with a renewed understanding of this ancient custom. It reminds us that we are the People of the Resurrection, followers of the Risen Christ.

On  Sunday, November 4th , there will be a traditional
Dia de los Muertos ofrenda (altar) set in the Memorial Garden. A traditional altar usually includes pictures of the departed, candles, marigolds, pan de muerto, and many other items. We would like to invite you to bring in
photographs of your departed loved ones to include on the ofrenda. Pictures should be 4 x 6, or smaller, and be in a frame.
The Christ Church Middle School Youth Group will be preparing pan de muerto and setting the altar on November 3. All  pictures should be brought to the Christ Church office no later than November 1st . Please contact Charlette Preslar , with any questions.

Pledge Balance - Giving Alternatives
2018 and 2019
collection plate As you prayerfully consider your pledge to the parish in the upcoming year, you might wonder about this year's pledge. What did I pledge? What have I contributed so far? What would have made giving easier for me?

If you would like a statement of year-to-date giving either by snail mail, email, or just a total over the phone, contact Christie Tugend in the parish office. She can also help you explore some simpler ways to donate such as:
  • Automatic withdrawal from checking or savings
  • Credit card charge (earn those points!)
  • IRA Rollover (for those 70.5 years and up)
  • Contribution of stock
These options can be utilized to complete this year's pledge and/or set in motion to satisfy next year's.
